Same here. It should be AA, Discover, Capital One, chase etc. Citibank customer service is horrible.
My personal experience with Citibank has been good which does not negate your experience with them. Thus, it can be hit or miss depending on who you talk to or the issue that need to be resolved.
If you prefer Chase, they have the Freedom Unlimited and Freedom Flex which have sign-up bonus of $200 and 5% back for groceries the first year up to $12000. These two Chase cards are actually better than the Citi Custom card if your goal is to get 5% back for groceries with a higher cap per year instead of $500 per month ($6000 per year).
In my prior post above, I mentioned that one can get the two Chase cards one year apart to get two years of 5% back for groceries then get the Citibank Custom card the third year to continue getting 5% back on groceries.
Didn't know about the Venmo Visa card pays 3% on wholesale club. Thanks.
Venmo card usually no sign-on bonus and must use the Venmo app only.
One will need to decide if it is worth it to keep a card for 1% more on wholesale club spend. Or get a 5% category back card back with sign-on bonus and a flat 2% card with sign-on bonus combination. Alternatively, get Citi Costco card for 2% back and 4% on gasoline and 2% more back if you have executive membership. These combinations of cards probably give one more flexibility and a better reward structure overall.
The Coinbase Visa debit card is another option if you're into crypto. 4% in stellar or graph rewards. Currently limited to a waiting list for approval but if if you can get it, it's probably the highest percent back you'll get from a card a Costco. Unless you just buy visa gift cards at grocery stores with the Chase Freedom Flex or Freedom unlimited with the first year signup bonus of 5% at grocery stores.
This deal is still valid in branch, into October I was told at my local SoCal branch at least as they keep extending the promo, which is $300 bonus for spending $1,000 in the first 3 months. Of course call your local Citi branch just to confirm the deal is still active. If you do it online it is $200 bonus for spending $800 in the first 3 months. You can also combine this credit card deal with Citi's new checking account promo possibly not detailed on slickdeals.net, just search Google for "Citi checking promo", which is $300, $700 or $1500 for opening a new Citi checking account as a new customer that never had a Citi checking account prior.
I have an HMBradley credit card which is a similar concept, but:
3% on top category, 2% on second category, 1% on rest per billing cycle (no dollar limit)
$60 annual fee
The main reason to get an HMB CC is not for the rewards but the boost to your HMB bank interest rate from 3% to 3.5%, which is $500 a year on $100K balance.

It would be nice if wholesale club is one of the categories. Very few cards offer extra percent back at Costco. You can get 2% back with the various 2% cards that are available or BofA Visa Custom Cash which gives 2% back at wholesale clubs.
The BoA MasterCard Customized Cash Rewards also has the 2% back at wholesale clubs.
I hadn't noticed that until today when I was looking at something else.
I got an email asking me to answer a question but when I got here I cant find the question
atxlonghorn asked in Citi Custom Cashâ" Card: Earn $200 after Spending $750 in First 3-Months
"For those who have this card: Does Citi offer Virtual Account Number on this card?"
To expand on this---"Its offering me a virtual card with up to 10% of my limit which would be $480 but it says a $500 minimum which does not make sense"
I think I had to click that I wanted the virtual card and I did but I ended up not needing it
But the 10% $500 minimum was odd given my low limit (Retired with low income)

Yes, the Master Card version has 2% back at wholesale clubs as well as the Visa version but the MasterCard version is not accepted at Costco warehouse but can be used at Costco.com which accepts various credit cards but not AMEX.

I had to request a paper check because thats the only way I could get it without having or using a smart phone
I think I had to click that I wanted the virtual card and I did but I ended up not needing it
