Why are you people obsessed with your credit limits. Who's going to spend more than $500 a month on this card anyway? $1000 limit seems plenty.
A higher limit gives you more wiggle room to have low credit utilization, which impacts your score. So someone spending $500 per month on a $1000 limit is 50% utilization on that card, which is terrible (unless they happen to pay most of it off before the reporting date). If they left $500 on the statement their score would surely drop. On the flip side, someone spending $500 per month with a $10,000 limit is only utilizing 5%, which if 5% is what is reported, it can actually raise one's credit score. Using your credit cards often while still having low credit utilization shows that you are responsible. Higher limits across the board + constant low utilization over time = eye candy to credit reporting agencies.
Meh, gave me a much lower limit than my other citi card I don't use. Will probably cancel right after promo.
I wouldn't do that. You already took the hit for it, best to just ride it out. Citi is notoriously conservative with their initial signature credit lines. On the plus side, they do soft pull credit checks for line increases, usually every 6 months, sometimes sooner. MyFico users report receiving line increases after only three months in some cases.
lol they finally approved me but gave me a $500 credit limit....
I have a high 700s credit score, a citi checking account and a Citi doublecash with a $9000 credit limit. something doesnt make sense...
It's possible you might be mistaking $500 of initial use, made available to you right away in the form of temporary credit line while they process your card. The app would confirm this if this is the case.

That limit doesn't mean anything disconnected from the balance transfer. I don't carry balances. I will call them when i get the card and ask them to move like 10K of my other card's limit over. If they say no, I'll close the card once the promo pays out. I really don't like Citibank, they treat us customers horrifically.

I called them and they confirmed it. they refused to explain why it was though...
Data point for me, in case anyone's interested.
I've had Citi DoubleCash card for the past 5-6 years. I used it as my main card for a couple of years, but since then I haven't used it much.
I applied yesterday for Custom Cash (through the $300 back after spending $1,000 offer) and got the message saying "We have received your application and further processing is required. We will contact you in approximately 7-10 days regarding our decision."
So I thought, great, now they're gonna ask to verify income and stuff, might not be worth the headache.
About 4 hours later I get an email saying I got approved, with an even higher credit limit than my Double Cash card. It said the card will arrive in 7-10 days of my approval date.
