I think (not confirmed) it has more to do with the fact that they axed the 'non-pro' version of this (think it was the 8100?) and instead of throwing those controllers out, they tried to pull a fast one and mingled them into the pro version.
I bought the 2TB version of this a month or two ago from Amazon, but it specifically said it had the EN controller (the better one) in the title. I can confirm that it did in fact have it.
This 1TB version doesn't specifically state the controller so buyer beware. It'll be printed right on the chip if you have the ENG (the good one) or the regular G version.
