I picked one up a few weeks ago from Costco (it came with 250 nits screens and 12 GB memory), and while I love everything about the laptop, I wished for a brighter screen and more memory. Your post is an answer to my prayer. And getting a pen is an added bonus.

I wasn't going to bore anyone with the details, but since you asked…
I was willing to pay a premium to get my hands on a 5800H, and the dGPU was intended for transcoding, and maybe gaming if I ever find time to get back into that (not likely any time soon).
But between the extra weight, no support for PD and needing to keep the bulky ass charger in my living room along side my usbc charger for everything else, and receiving a laptop with a keyboard defect, I decided to return it. Will never again order a laptop without PD charging, but will consider one with a dGPU if it has PD (and a webcam, cmon Asus take my money).
Then fetch the last year's Asus Zephyrus G14 with 4900HS and RTX 2060 Max-Q which goes on sale around $1149 in BB multiple times. Also, you can pickup a Open Box even at cheaper price. For transcoding, you really want a nVidia GPU as well due to the NVENC Encoder for H264 and H265. Their quality and the configuration allowed, has been improved a lot and with RTX Cards, full 2 pass support, B Frame etc., the end quality is almost similar to software encoding in CPU. Another option is the below one, but you can't upgrade the Ram. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-SFX14...B093TK1PXF
That is the problem with the HP Envy x360 15z Ryzen models. the 400 nits Panel option is only available when you buy it directly from HP. All the other resellers like Costco or BestBuy, only sell the default 20-nits display version. It was the same in the 2020 model as well.
How does this compare to the Lenovo posted a couple weeks back? This one has a touchscreen and Ryzen 7, the Lenovo has a dedicated GPU, i5 and is a bit bigger/heavier.
I also am debating between these two. I see the lenovo one has win 64 professional, slightlyy lower nits 350. And intel chip. Looking for experts to chime in to help us decide

Tough choice! I was debating between the HP Envy x360 vs this Lenovo 5i Pro, but since my wife absolutely loves having a touch screen, I had to go with the x360.
But what I love about the Lenovo is the screen: 16:10, 2560x1600, 100% SRGB gamut. Plus you get TB4, Windows 10 Pro, Windows Hello IR camera, MX450 for light gaming.
I would say go with the Lenovo 5i Pro UNLESS you need one or more of the following:
- Touchscreen
- Flipping the laptop to tablet mode
- Pen support
- Absolutely want to go team red (AMD)
I bought an x360 for the reasons many have mentioned here - folding, tablet mode, touch screen, etc. However after owning an HP Envy x360 (not this model though), I can tell you that there is a problem with the hinge breaking from opening/closing/folding into tablet mode. First, educate yourself - search "hp hinge repair" or any variation of that to see how common this problem is across models. If you are going to buy this x360 anyway, make sure you cover yourself for an ~$400 repair if this happens to your laptop. My laptop is out for repair right now.

I have a 2700u based EliteBook and it can run Photoshop and Premier. This is double the cores and double the ram plus the generational improvements are huge. It should be fine as long as you aren't expecting workstation class performance out of it.

When did you buy your x360? I've had 3 of these thus far and they have all been issue free.
Buyer Beware: I bought an HP Envy x360 with a Ryzen chip a generation ago. HP never released any driver updates and the video was really flakey. The chip was new so I knew I was running a risk but the fact that HP never released an update really left me with a hard-to-use computer. Something I might expect from a low-end intro model but that's not what an Envy x360 is supposed to be. YMMV.
