You've asked several questions here that a little bit of researching could have otherwise answered (using both google and Slickdeals).

For a $2k purchase, I wouldn't put a ton of stock in what people on a forum say in regards to whether or not it's a good deal.

I'm looking for a TV for watching movies, sports and live streams. Its been said here the Sony OLED is better for that and the LG is more for gamers.
Any opinions on this new LG being better for my uses?
Thanks
There's not a huge difference, both TV's use the same panel made by LG Display, but most experts would say that for your use the Sony would be slightly better. The Sony has better motion processing and is a little brighter. The LG has advantages for gamers, but since you are not gaming those don't matter.

Sony will have better processing and upscaling so better noise reduction, depth and perceived sharpness especially the newer A80J, not that LG is terrible Sony just does processing better, you can game on both but LG offers more features for hardcore gamers, LGs cimemotion is actually really good.

According to LG Evo is a combination of the newer panel and newer SOC to maximize the performance of the panel, supposedly only the G1 has Evo capability, Sony uses a custom heat sink to dissipate heat so they can push the panel for more brightness on the A90J and then uses the XR processor for light control.

Thanks. Is it worth paying extra for the G1 though? My living room gets a lot of outside light, so it could help with watching TV in daytime.

The G1 is brighter than the C1 but not by much, using 2.2 gamma might help you out in the day also LG usually has pretty good reflection handling. You would really have to try a set in your room to see how it fares.

Otherwise maybe the Samsung Q90A it gets really bright, excellent gaming features, wider viewing angles than average. It has no Dolby Vision and only has slight blooming in a pitch dark room, bias lighting should help with that. Otherwise you will just have to test an Oled to see how it works in your environment, you can push the panel at full brightness but idk if that good got longevity.

I sold my Sony A9G to my coworker and her loving room gets a fair amount of light here in Florida, I just set gamma to 2.2 and set the automatic light sensor on and it doing just fine in the day and she raves about picture at night coming from her old IPS panel,, that Sony doesn't do excellent with reflections but she told me she just closes the blinds sending sunlight towards it and it's good, ymmv tho

Best picture in a moderately lit room or at night especially with DV and HDR, no blooming, no backlight pulse, deep rich contrast, properly ISF calibrated OLEDs are gorgeous. Also A90J can hit 1300+ nits in vivid mode.

Moderate lit room, so if you room is very bright OLED is not recommended.
I had the Nanocell and that couldn't even hit 500nit in HDR so now a TV that doesn't hit above 1000 nits I am not interested

Dang, I just bought the 65" C1 from buydig last week when it was $2300. Is there any chance I can get price protection from them for the difference?

Correct if the room is too bright then a premium LCD is better, LG nanocell is IPS so not only did you not have the light output to match your room you didn't have any contrast, most oleds can hit 700 nits in HDR some even briefly hit 800 in some highlights but they also have the contrast to match.

If you have a room not drenched in Sunlight or enjoy watching movies at night without squinting at every bright scene get OLED, if you need light output then go with a premium LCD those low end LCDs still only put out 5-600 nits.
