Will trade in discount work?
If you have a trade-in just start the trade-in process now to ensure you have your 20% off coupon in your account but don't buy it until Prime Day.
The 20% comes off the Regular price of the PW and then the Prime Day discount comes off that.

For example if I trade in my 7th Gen PW, Amazon is offering me a $25 Gift Card.
$130 reg. price- 20% trade-in Q=$104- $50 PrimeDay discount= $54 total before tax.

With the $25 AMZ GC from trade-in, it costs me $29 to upgrade. (And that's not even counting the $10 Small Business credit or the $10 for buying $40 AMZ gift cards.)

Thread from last Prime Day starting with post #136.https://slickdeals.net/f/14408762-prime-members-8gb-kindle-paperwhite-wifi-waterproof-e-reader-w-special-offers-80-via-alexa-voice-shopping-free-s-h?v=1&page=10
Or if you read any other Amazon Device Trade-In threads before Prime Day or Black Friday, you'll see that's the best time for killer deals.

It's not 'backlight' for that exact reason. Kindle Paperwhite's are "front-lit." They have LED in the bezels that refract the light on layer of glass just above the e-ink screen (think a fiber-optic cable, but flattened out into a think sheet of glass). There are patterns on that glass that direct the light downward onto the e-ink screen across the entire width of it, giving a fairly even lighting effect that reflects back up, the same as your indirect lighting does (except probably more evenly). It also doesn't contain much blue light, which is the type that causes eye strain in the first place.

So, do whatever you like, but eye-strain on a kindle paperwhite simply isn't a thing. It's really well designed in that regard.
Thanks for the info. I never turn on the lighting on my Paperwhite due to the concerns. I also noticed that the lighting cannot be completely turned off on the Paperwhite. You'll still notice a slight glow in the lowest brightness setting in a pitch black room. I'm also wondering if there's any PWM flickering when lowering the brightness?

The should add warm lighting to these. Oasis had it but it's far too overpriced for a once in awhile reader.
Actually no. If you ever use a Kindle I highly recommend the oasis with the cover. I've been an occasional kindle reader for about 10 years and the oasis with cover is the only way it should be.

They didn't send me a 20% coupon until I sent in my device.

The trade in coupons and gift card only get applied to your account now once they receive and appraise the device rather than instantly after submitting the request.

That part can be YMMV, depend on your account . Every time I've done it, they give me the Trade-In coupon right after I print the Return label. On my account, they also give me the Trade-In Value (TIV) instantly too, which is also ymmv.

I have the Paperwhite rn and I'll probably upgrade to the Oasis now if there's a good deal for the Prime Day. PW is great but I really want the bigger screen and physical buttons so Oasis it is.

I've got this one and it's really nice. Agree the harsh blue light is uncomfortable in the evening.

ive had 2 and end up forgetting about them after a few months.

They are okay but I would really consider if you'll actually use it. If you're like me and play video games, you'll probably read most of your stuff on your computer. They do read nice and offer you something to do during some downtime at work. You just have to consider is it worth 80$ for that, which for me i realize it probably isn't.

Just ordered a moment ago, so this still works through the Amazon shopping app on android. As a previous poster mentioned, use the app's voice function and say "Alexa, order Kindle Paperwhite." It will look as if it is full price in the cart, but you'll see the discount upon checkout.

I'm still refusing to buy a new kindle until they add USB C. It's 2021, I'm not buying a new device that I'm going to have for years to come with Micro USB.
