They're kind of big for many bedrooms. My son's room is using an old air purifier with a washable filter that isn't great, so this is ideal for him on top of a bookshelf.
Is this actually a good deal? I don't know much about purifiers but looking at buying one for my apartment (300 square foot studio). I saw this one but ccc says it was $99 at one point and I don't want to pay $140 for it now haha. https://www.amazon.com/ULTTY-Puri...op?ie=UTF8

I like the Winix one from Costco when it goes on sale because they've proven reliable and come with an extra filter all for $99.
I have a few Winix air filters that pop-up form time to time at Costco.
I also have two Lasko 20" box fans which have built in filters (not the standard box fan). I believe I bought them for around $40 each. I have them on a smart switches, so they both run on high every morning before I wake up. These have much more airflow than the Winix and uses cheaper replacement filters. They just don't look as nice.

Box fans can be quite loud is the only drawback. At least the one I got was (it was a Lasko, but I know they have many different models, and then there are other manufacturers as well). So if you go that route, try to get the decibel ratings before purchasing. I think on the lowest setting on mine was 72db. It seemed like the 3 Fan speed were Loud, Louder, and Very Loud. But the DIY box fan with filter setup is indeed very effective, if you can find a 20" box fan that isn't too noisy. They might also use more energy than Air Purifiers, but the difference is probably not huge.
Here is the one I bought[homedepot.com], notice they don't list the decibel rating. Ended up returning the Lasko and buying the one in the OP yesterday for $84, as it has db levels of 24db on low to 52db or so on high. It's coming in the Mail tomorrow, hopefully it will fit my needs and work out. My allergies have been bonkers lately.

You're right. They are louder than the Winix air purifier. I have the timed to turn on when I wake up so the loudness if a feature I like (acts like an alarm clock). Lol!
