This is the newer version of the "E" model and is not the same as the higher-end Nest. It seems like Google has done some rebranding and dropped the E designation, so I'm not sure how you can communicate this in the title of the post.

Unfortunately, you're going to confuse/disappoint/frustrate some folks who are going to think this is the higher-end one.

To be fair, this is more Google's fault than OPs. The more expensive version you are taking about is called the Nest Learning Thermostat. This one is just the Nest Thermostat, which supercedes the Nest Thermostat 'E'.

Google choose terribly vague model names.

For sure. If I'd had a suggestion on how to convey, I'd have shared it to help out OP. Seems like "learning" is the only difference :-/

Huh? If anyone confuses this "programmable" Nest with the "learning" Nest just because the name doesn't say E in it, I worry about their wellbeing.

In need of another thermostat. Have an ecobee for one floor and I like the fact it came with sensors. Does this come with a sensor as optional? or is that only for the learning thermostat.

I wouldn't say it supersedes the E. The e was discontinued for consumers. Only available for pro installers and is arguably better.
The new wifi but dumb one looks better though.

The sensor is only for the learning thermostat.
