I also needed to upgrade my modem for gigabit internet, and after researching the various options, I went with this deal today. This and the CM2000 have essentially the same feature sets, and so for ~$65 cheaper and a larger body for better heat dispersion, this was my clear choice. Though you have a Netgear Nighthawk router, you need not get a Nighthawk branded modem - other than perhaps aesthetic uniformity, it confers no additional benefit over a similarly featured device.
Buy them separate for max performance, together if you want to spend less, have less complexity, but get less performance. A combo is never going to match a separate router and modem.

Spectrum has GiG internet in my area but they provide their own modem. I figured I could get this modem since I read the base is removeable and the modem can lay flat on vented cantilever shelf in my network rack. I also like the single 2.5g port which would interface with my UniFi Dread Machine very well.

I was also hoping it would make their "install" less intrusive since they require to come into the house to install their equipment and I don't want that. Maybe I can convince them to not charge me $200 for an install if I already have an approved modem for their service?

I'm hoping someone can help me reason since I'm on the fence about it.

If I have a 8x4 modem right now, that theoretically supports 343mbps max.. and I'm only paying for 300 megabit down and 35 mbps up, is there any benefit in upgrading for stability purposes?

Does more channels result in more stability and reliability somehow, or does it not work like that?

No, I don't think so. If you are not going for the speed, e.g , 1 Gig service, this modem will not give you anything more than a DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

I've heard DOCSIS 3.1 and Moca use the same frequencies, will this play nice with my gocoax moca adapters? Does any one have any experience with the two?
Hey, so I think you need to find what frequencies your ISP uses for docsis 3.1

Then your moca (I'm guess you have maco 2.0) modems should be configurable to use a frequency that doesn't clash as much.

You can also look into moca filters that you install at the demarc into your home/apartment to filter out noise, but not sure whats available for the docsis3.1 frequencies.

... Ok so, this has a "max speed" of 6Gbps but the Ethernet port only goes up to 2.5Gbps. wtf?
There is one open and two / three masked Ethernet ports on this modem. All ports can be bonded for a max of 6gbps speed - when available

I'm a noob with this stuff but my friend has xfinity and his wifi doesn't reach across the house. Any suggestions on what equipment he should buy? 2 routers and have one as a repeater wired from the main router?
How is the speed coming into the house if you connect via Ethernet directly to the modem and run a speed test on speedtest.net or similar? I assume the modem is from Xfinity and that this is a cable modem and wifi router combo?. If that's as expected, then it sounds like wifi alone is the issue. If that's the case, then the easiest approach might be to buy a mesh wifi kit (multiple access points that link together). You can then likely disable the wifi on the Xfinity device and just use that device as a cable modem. The ideal would be to run CAT6 between devices.

Note that you could also use a second router if hardwired to the first. You'd go from the the Xfinity device to the upstream WAN port of the second router. Ideally the second router will have some sort of access point mode that you can choose during setup. This will be beneficial otherwise devices connected to one router or the other won't see each across the network.
