I also needed to upgrade my modem for gigabit internet, and after researching the various options, I went with this deal today. This and the CM2000 have essentially the same feature sets, and so for ~$65 cheaper and a larger body for better heat dispersion, this was my clear choice. Though you have a Netgear Nighthawk router, you need not get a Nighthawk branded modem - other than perhaps aesthetic uniformity, it confers no additional benefit over a similarly featured device.
Buy them separate for max performance, together if you want to spend less, have less complexity, but get less performance. A combo is never going to match a separate router and modem.

This or Netgear CM2000 for $199 ($50 off on Amazon)

For reference, I have a Netgear Nighthawk router (not sure if that helps or not). Upgrading from older Arris. Have the fastest internet plan Comcast offers.

Seems to be an opinion across the board on these, the motorola, Arris 8200s, etc.

My router or modem went out..both are about 4yrs old now. I'm debating if I should still buy separate router and modem or do the combos are getting better now and buy one unit? Thoughts?

Yeah that's how I have it now. I was just wondering if they got any better. But I guess I'll be patient a wait for tomorrow for Amazon's deals and buy two separate units. Im looking into a Asus AX3000 and modem I'm still looking into it.

I concur. MB8611 is a better deal, not to mention that Motorola offers a two-year warranty versus one year by Netgear (and Netgear support is free only for 90 days).

I'll pass on the Motorola. Bought the same one and returned it. The modem was really unstable. Didn't completely drop the signal but it goes slow and picks back up. Saw the CM 1100 on sale at costco for 109.00 and got that one instead.

I'm a noob with this stuff but my friend has xfinity and his wifi doesn't reach across the house. Any suggestions on what equipment he should buy? 2 routers and have one as a repeater wired from the main router?

If he is using the xFinity equipment, first would be get ride of it, its crap and the wifi on their devices is horrible. To answer your question, yes, what you mentioned is one was to do it and honestly best, since wired between each routers make sure throughout put is best on the repeater.

so I recently moved and am on Xfinity internet 800mb plan. When I used the xfinity gateway I got about 650mb down but only 250mb down with this modem. I tried another similar modem and got the same results. I have always gotten better speed with my own equipment but the xfinity one was actually getting better results. Any thoughts why?

I've heard DOCSIS 3.1 and Moca use the same frequencies, will this play nice with my gocoax moca adapters? Does any one have any experience with the two?
