It's used as a synonym for forfeit, as you can 'default' on your turn in the game, same usage as defaulting in chess. You get a credit for another turn to be used later. Another option during your turn is to 'brave', essentially taking two turns at a time and using up those credits you earned by defaulting. The final option is to simply take the turn, cast a spell, attack etc etc

So the name "Bravely Default" is a reference to those two major additions to the combat system, braving and defaulting, and is, surprisingly, grammatically correct.

Good game if you like the old Jrpg styles of FInal fantasy. It uses job system like ff11 but there are so much more job/sub job to choose from. Has modern systems (can turn off if you want) so it doesn't waste your time looking for quests and other stuff

Playing through now, seems to follow formula from bravely default pretty closely. I'd say if u enjoyed that, you'll enjoy this.

Pretty simplistic and inoffensive, sunday morning cartoon villains and all. It's not great, but it's also not going to make you cringe in the way something like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will. BD2 definitely tries to get by more on charm and nostalgia than on depth of story. It's a Four Heroes of Light game, after all.

Tempted to cop, but already got a sizable JRPG backlog as it is. Plus I've yet to play Bravely Default or Bravely Second yet.

Not worth it. Even at $40.

Huge step down from the first two..

The game feels rushed.

The story is so. SO. Basic.

There one time I was ever surprised or even engaged by the story. One late game reveal.

I was deeply disappointed by this game.

lol XC2 wasnt thaaaat bad. And yeaaaa okay. I understand. Not sure if I want to jump in now or later. Might be better to just play more backlog as the prices goes lower. Octopath eventually got to $30...lol.

Bravely Default was on the DS (Bravely Second, not to be confused with Bravely Default II, is the direct sequel to Bravely Default and also on DS)

BD2 is standalone, much like how Final Fantasies have nothing to do with one another (story wise)
