If something is mission critical, then one should have drive redundancy (RAID possibly) and regular backups configured. All drives have the potential of failure and nothing is a replacement for a good backup strategy.

Good deal, but not a robust drive. If you're using your setup for anything mission critical, data intensive, or plan on keeping your rig for more than five years, be cautious about saving a few bucks today only to lose most/all your data down the line. At the very least, use S.M.A.R.T. reporting, use the drive in AHCI mode and use Crucials drive monitor software or check monthly in PowerShell for drive health, and follow a strict data backup schedule. Just my opinion.

More hilarious is people talking about "mission critical" in regards to consumer SSD drives. I love these drives for my gaming rig, but nothing like this goes in a "real" server.

Anyone keeping a machine over 4-5years should at least replace the drive. SSD or HDD. Keep as emergency backup. We replace all of our clients drives every 4 years if they don't cycle out machine.

Yeah Best Buy won't pay my gas and tolls when I get something defective at the store. For the record over 90% of electronics returns are "no problem found" which is a nice way of saying the purchaser is the problem. When we stopped selling parts to customers and only sold in complete systems or a part of a service we performed our RMA dropped from 3.9% to 0.06%
