FYI, this water cooler uses a peltier belt (Thermo-electric cooler) for the heating and cooling which is much less efficient than a traditional compression based refrigerator. Its about 1/4th the efficiency in cooling (COP [wikipedia.org]) but it has the benefit of fewer moving parts, can get colder or hoter, and cheaper which is why you see it here at this price instead of the typical $200 for a normal water cooler.

A report on the topic is shown here - https://www.researchgate.net/publ...ALEE_et_al

I wouldn't buy it since i love cold water and rare use hot, but this sucker gets up to 190F in temperature which is near boiling so you can cook your ramen, and burn your coffee with it. It would use a ton of juice to cool your water though so if you like hot water this would be good.

I like cold water though so I'll stick with a standard water cooler.
Take your empty to Walmart and refill at the Culligan station (RO filtration) for around 30 cents a gallon ($1.50). I have 3x 5 Gal bottles and when I get to the last one I take the other two to get refilled. You have to tote them but hey it's my money and it isn't a problem for me to tote them.
I used to go to Lowes for their Primo station where it was $7/5 gal assuming you have empties to trade in, otherwise ~$13 I think. Once the pandemic was in full swing though they were almost always sold out, and it was a PITA to keep going to Lowes hoping (the restocks were inconsistently scheduled), so I went with a water service (water.com/Hinkley Springs, the place that Primo(the brand of water cooler I bought) pointed me to). My fam goes through between 5-7 five gallon bottles of water a month, and this place allows you to setup whatever recurring schedule you want, with variable quantity that you can change up to a day before delivery, and the service costs $7 per delivery. The bottles are probably back in stock at Lowes, but I ended up not cancelling the service as for me, it is worth every penny of that $7 to no longer have to hunt down 5-7 five gallon bottles of water, man handle them into my little car, etc. at least once a month. Here is an example bill(I have delivery setup every 2 weeks, I will change to once a month once I set aside some additional space to store more full jugs of water):

Delivered Items Qty Price Amount
HINCKLEY SPRINGS 5G DRINKING WATER 3 6.99 20.97
5.0 GALLON BOTTLE 3 6.00 18.00
5.0 GALLON BOTTLE -3 6.00 -18.00
DELIVERY FEE 1 6.95 6.95
(3Bottles Delivered - 3Bottles Returned = 0Bottle Deposits)
Subtotal Sales 27.92
Sales Tax 1.81
Delivery Ticket Total 29.73
Payment Total 0.00

Purchased a tank that has a filter and just refill it periodically. Something like this...

How much do new filter refills cost?

For those who have these โ€” how do you manage the 5-gal refills? Do you use a company, or do you refill them somewhere? Or just exchange them for new ones when you run out?

Around town we have water dispenser stations it costs around $0.50 to fill a 5 gallon. We also have ice dispensers around.

I think the state you live in matters because Florida price of water is $6/1k and some states it's like... $30/1k

If you buy an RO system for $200 and drink 1k gallons that's $206.. 1k gallons at $0.30 is $300

1k gallons is like a family of 5 drinking half a gallon a day for a year

But RO water might taste funny if you store it.. After an hour in a metal bottle it tastes like metal, after an hour in a cup it tastes like... Glass
I've been doing RO refills at home since the pandemic and I haven't had the issue with RO water tasting funny although I was warned that by the installer who sold me the RO so he had no reason to lie (he warned me about algae growth potential as well).

My RO water has sat for at most a few weeks without issue though.

Culligan (or a similar service) will pick up your empty bottles & deliver new. Or you can pick up/drop off bottles at a Culligan "store." You can also refill the bottles at many grocery stores at their self-fill stations for approx 40 cents per gallon. Happy H2O!

findaspring.com might have a spring nearby. We don't own one of these yet, but have been filling our own 5 gallon jugs and using a battery operated pump on top.

Is there anyway to use this bottle less? I have a water line in my office and I'm looking for a way to dispense water off of it.

I could see rigging up a bottle in the bottom with a float valve hooked in. Basically think of it like the top of your toilet tank. Whenever the water level gets low it'll automatically top off. Dunno how the insides work...you might be able to just figure out some system with soft tubing and clamps to make it good enough.

I always wanna get something like this to put in my bedroom so I don't have to keep going downstairs for more water at night but then I think carrying a 5 gallon thing of water up to my bedroom sounds kinda miserable too laugh out loud Still might get one though.

I use Costco water delivery service. https://www.costco.com/water-deli...vices.html

They have agreements with local companies. In NY it's https://www.readyrefresh.com/en/ which is owned by Nestle.

Going direct would be much more expensive (almost twice as much), but with Costco pricing I get 5 gallons of Poland Spring for $7.49. Purified water is slightly cheaper. Delivery is a one time fee of $6.95 regardless of # of bottles delivered: I normally get 12, which is enough for ~2 months. These racks have been very helpful to keep the garage tidy with so many bottles.

It's a pretty awesome deal, considering that I don't need to load/unload, and take the empty ones back.

$7 for delivery fee + overpriced per gallon water? i think i will just go to my nearest walmart or grocery stores and pay 1/3 of the price per 5 gallons and still save me $7.

well, if you are at home all the time waiting for the delivery, then it totally makes sense. but we go to work and they will have to leave the containers in front of our porch. still more load and unload.

I think they are referring to the company called Water & Ice, not actual water and ice.

Wow didn't think I'd run into a water cooler expert here, but thanks for keeping me from buying this!
