I can't vouch for RoR2, but the first game is incredibly fun and addicting. It's easy to want to give up at first because you will die a LOT early on, but as you unlock new abilities and characters, you'll constantly get further and further in your runs. I originally bought it on Steam years ago and picked it up again as soon as it hit the eShop. Highly recommend.

I can vouch for RoR2, and can say it's also incredibly fun and addicting. They took everything fun about the first game and improved upon it in almost every way. I wasn't sure I'd like the 3D gameplay as opposed to the 2D gameplay in the first game, but now it's really hard to go back. It's still hard as hell still but it gives a sense of accomplishment that few other games can replicate. Highly recommend.
ROR 2 is okay solo, but great fun with friends. Lots of stuff going on but still mindless enough at a level of engagement where you can all just enjoy hanging out and chatting throughout each run.
Also fun trying to unlock all the characters, too.
FYI, it was $12.25 just 10 days ago from the same seller at Walmart. So price has been cheaper recently for those wondering. I need to play this game! Another backlogged game with the shrink-wrap on lol

I grabbed it when it was that price and so far have only played part 2.
It is a tough, but enjoyable, game. Lots of unlockable characters and each one has their own abilities and play style. A lot of replayability just playing through the game with the different characters, imo.
Full disclosure, I've only played single player so far, so I can't speak on the multiplayer experience. Nonetheless, I have no regrets picking it up.

It is both. In the bottom right corner of the cover art, it says it includes #1.
