Not sure who wants to buy this old phone when pixel 5 has arrived. This seems too much for an out of date handset.
I agree and it's been end of life for software and security updates since last year, I wouldn't buy one personally

I agree. I am using one now and I have had mine for 3 years or whenever it came out. Camera is still amazing but no more updates, screen cracks easily and it's becoming laggy with new apps. It's time to move to something newer.

Is this worth it to use as just a camera? I'm looking for a nice pocket camera but phones are the way to go with built in editing apps and such. I have one of the cheap galaxy phones as my main. I'd like a nice camera around this price point.
Yes, the Google Pixel phones can easily beat any $150 point-and-shoot camera.
In fact most reviewers will only compare these phones against $500 cameras.

It's not the camera hardware itself (the lens and imaging sensor) that takes credit for this, but rather Google's software and processing.
With a high-end smartphone, you are getting a LOT more computational power which compensates for a tiny lens and tiny sensor.

To understand why, read this and other such articles:

Can i turn this into a " wireless doorbell" ??
Seems like a good use for older phones like this

maybe an app to turn it into a doorbell that will call your phone.. then you can see who's at the door and actually communicate with them... surely someone had done this already 👍

Had the Pixel 2 XL between 2017 and 2020. Battery life was never an issue. The camera was at the top of its league when it came out. Screen burn-in was terrible, though. Received three units under 1-year limited warranty. The last unit didn't show screen burn-in until 2019, but once it did, it got bad pretty quickly. Finally upgraded to a Pixel 4a last year once it became impossible to read most text on the 2 XL screen.

I think it might be worth getting one just to use as a camera for those who want/need one. I upgraded to a 4a and I really miss the camera quality of my old 2 XL.

I have the 4a and 4a 5G. Fckers get warm/hot during video recording. If you use its' screen recording the phone will overheat and shut off. Hate these 4a's. I replaced the 5G thinking it might just be the phone but no, it's the same. Also there's lag every once in a while on both. I dislike this especially on the regular 4a.

not sure how the phone can stay on for 24/7 on a charger without causing hardware issue. Technically, you can connect to your Nest/Google Home ecosystem with wireless speakers for voice streaming.
I use mine as a glorious webcam via DroidCamX app.

I have a cell phone that stays on the charger 24x7 without a problem. I use it as a hotspot. I would think the phone is smart enough to "stop eating when it is full" or else the litium ion battery would explode.

As far as using it as a doorbell, not sure of over-heating possibility. Are there apps that do this ?

I have read a rumor that the 5a 5G will be announced in August. There will be some price reduction on the 4a but I am not sure there will be a lot to unload, especially with the parts shortage. There is no talk of a 5a (no 5G). Barring anything catastrophic, Google's phone will be out for before Black Friday.

But keep in mind that the 4a only has updates for about 2 more years. And when Google starts using there own processor they can update for a longer period as I recall, the reason they don't update longer is because the drivers on the processor are only supported for 3 years by the processor manufacturer.

Not a deal when the 3XL 128GB has been $200
Not to mention Pixel 3 uses OLED display not the inferior AMOLED.
