This has the same 3 year warranty like the Passport line. From experience the casing on these will hold up a lot longer. Plus the usb 3.2 interface for a snappier performance.
Wow so these are better than the Passports basically and functionally are the same...and basically the same price? Hmmmm might have to pull the trigger

The 8Tb and up sizes are 3.5" 7200rpm WD drives and there are reports of read speeds in the 300's on that 8Tb somehow in testing. This one the drive is soldered to the interface so can't use it in a pc unfortunately. I almost got this one thinking they were same speed as the 8TB glad I did some research before pulling trigger.

Any of these external drives have cases that let them be daisy-chained so you can run a backup and then a RAID-style backup of the backup? Just curious. tempted to get two because I don't want the cost or hassle of dealing with a NAS enclosure just to have family photos backed up twice auto-magically.....

but its not 7k rpm, its 5400. which will work all the same. but if they did make a usb powered 7k I would pay a premium, without external power.

I use these daily to watch movies via usb, all my drives are usb powered. Absolutely no problems. So for me having a cable powered drive isn't worth it (waste of wall space) lol

7200rpm drives need about 8-10W to operate. Only USB 3.1 spec or newer provides enough power for that but I'm not aware of any usb-powered 7200rpm 3.1+ drives (yet).

So I know if you get this for the series x it would be for the older games, but does that mean that it would be for the original version of the older games or for the "upgraded" series x version like state of decay and so on.

Here's a detailed explanation why -that another SD'er shared some time ago when I asked..

https://serverfault.com/questions...hard-drive

Essentially, not enough power through standard USB to ensure backwards compatibility..
USB 3 (and above) SHOULD have enough juice, but for now, eSATA remains THE single- cable solution
