.

Decent price for this short Gearwrench set (they make several), but for low end tools that everyone uses, I have had better luck with the handles staying on with the Harbor Freight set [harborfreight.com] for $10 before any sale or coupon. Actually, the handles on that HF set look like my older private Snap On set. But, everyone has copied Snap On, like with ratchet handles.

I mean the 4 picks on the right are <$2 all day at harbor freight. The 3 larger ones on the right I can't justify the $$

Sometimes the confusion can be in the length... GearWrench makes several sets and the OP set is their small set.... between 6 and 7 inches or so. Economy, they come in a plastic tray like the cheapest of HF does. If you use these a lot, as we do a couple of the sizes for pulling vinyl, they are soft and the dang handles pull out. Snap On is nice, HF is fine, but the best ones I have ever used are stamped 'Wilde' .... as an assortment of cotter pin pullers. I think I got those at CR Lawrence years ago and abused, still work great.

I came here hoping to be the first to point out the harbor freight picks are another option. You nailed that on the first reply! Lesson learned, you gonna be pretty fast around here!

Home Depot sells this same set for $40, and Acme Tools sells it for $34 + $6.50 shipping, so this is about as cheap as you will ever find these GearWrench picks - anywhere.

I own the mini orange-handled HF picks that you mention, and also own one (1) of these GearWrench mini picks... the GW picks are much, much nicer than those $2 HF picks. As far as the larger handled picks in this set, HF sells a set with much cheaper basic black plastic handles on them. The larger HF pick set is not nearly as nice as these GW picks. Now, if HF had a pick set in their ICON line, then that would likely be comparable to these GW picks (which, again, sell for around $40 everywhere else).

If you're only using picks on soft materials (like rubber o-rings) and they have the sizes/shapes that you need, then sure, go to Harbor Freight.

But if you want picks with better handles that won't twist or slip and tips that will take a lot more abuse before bending or breaking, then look for a better set such as these from GearWrench.

Although most of the reviews on HF for their $10 pick set are good, if you look at the complaints, many of them are about the metal part of tool not being anchored well enough in the black plastic handles. To be fair, I own a bunch of HF tools and some of their rubber/plastic magnetized drivers are really nice - I use them all the time. That said, I'm not a fan of their $10 black-handled hook and pick set mentioned above. Sure, they'll mostly get the job done, but they're fairly low rent and junky.

Oh, and btw - I *just* noticed that HF is now selling an ICON branded hook and pick set [harborfreight.com]... it's $65!

Thinking the same thing, almost bit but I have the larger set and can't justify the price with over half this set being the bitty ones.

The small Icon 4 piece set is $20... https://harborfreight.com/profess...57786.html

So compared to the Icon set, this actually gets you the 3 large picks...
