The bits are probably the best part and actually were of better quality than the average.

$1 off does not seem like a deal when these were often $12 to $14 for the past several years, but apparently about to be discontinued.... at least on Amazon. Manufactured in a '9001' factory, unlikely to have been manufactured in Japan that would be the primary factory.

We have Vessel's regular size ratcheting model [amazon.com], where the top pops off to make a stubby. From a deal last Christmas, it was $13 and ok, but what I noticed immediately was that it is made in Thailand, not Japan.

Edit, here is a price history....

I'm yet to find any other bits as good as vessel. They're better than Wera imo.

Every bit they make (for Japanese Vessel) is perfect. My only issue is that the hex shanks don't hold in any of the US style impact drivers, or locking extensions.

I own 2 of these - both made in Japan. The picture shows "Made in Japan." The sellers are all third party sellers on Amazon with Japanese-sounding names. I'm not sure where you're getting these might be made in Thailand.... every Vessel hand tool I have ever seen has been made in Japan, and this interchangeable ball grip driver is definitely made in Japan.

It depends on the tool model & distribution market, for instance the US version of their flat ratcheting driver is made in Taiwan w/ bits made in Japan whereas the Japanese market version is marked Made in Taiwan with no further distinction.

Okay, when I wrote hand tool, I was thinking of Vessel drivers. I wasn't aware of that mini ratchet, but not surprised that is made in TW. Now, let me be more clear... I'm not aware of any Vessel driver (screwdriver, Phillips, Torx, Pozi, etc) or bit not being made in Japan. Again, this ball handle driver is definitely made in Japan.

Factories in Japan can be ISO 9001 certified, not sure why you think otherwise.

I'm not challenging you on this particular driver, nor the vast majority of their tools...just saying there are a few exceptions to the Made in Japan rule.

Fair enough... didn't think you were trying to be snarky or anything. I actually realized it was me that wasn't clear enough. I wrote "hand tools" when I was really thinking "drivers." None the less, Vessel tools are definitely high quality and mostly all made in Japan. If you're looking for a nice set of Japanese made mini ratchets, check out something from TONE (like the BRS20 [ebay.com] set). ✌🏻

I bought this before because its the cheapest JIS screwdriver available and it works well despite the relatively short length. It will make working on japanese cars much easier and infinitely less frustrating compared to using phillips.

I was thinking the same thing, I'm not knocking the product, as Vessel makes amazing products, I don't think .91 cents is anything to ride home about

You read Japanese? Well, you can read the ISO 9001.... Perhaps you do not understand manufacturing, marketing and international laws. Look up what a 9001 factory is and tell us all why these are manufactured in one. It is all in the details.... best case scenario is these are packaged in Japan, because for certain, the Vessel I purchased and gave the link to was manufactured in Thailand... or perhaps just packaged in Thailand.

It is like Makita, with now most all imported to the USA being manufactured in China.... that they tried to hide for quite awhile until the double shipping to assemble/ package in Japan was cutting into profits. If you want made in Japan Makita, you will buythe red from a dealer there.

A Japanese manufacture certifying their own Japanese factory to be compliant with their own manufacturing process is not only redundant, but ludicrous.... An ISO 9001 factory elsewhere to maintain and certify the manufacturing process is how most all now do it.

Some, such as DeWalt as a well known brand, will 'assemble in the USA from global components' to abide by US laws that sounds good for marketing, but like China owned and manufactured Milwaukee, DeWalt is still manufactured in China with an ISO 9001 compliant factory to then be assembled/packaged in the USA.... for now. Eventually, like Makita, they will not bother and just do it all in China.
