It feels like way more than 8gb since it is functionally running on the same architecture as an iPhone or iPad and it also has very fast storage that it can hot swap with the ram. There are things that the 16gb helps with like intense video editing loads, but it's not really comparable to an intel mac or pc in terms of experience or usability. I personally would go for the 16gb, but I tend to push my devices a bit with things like blendr. Most people legit don't need it. The comparison to a traditional pc isn't legit though.
just buy macbook air for m1, i just dont see why people would pay more for basically the same machine and you prob want fanless on those anyway
You get a real fan in the pro but reviews say they run cool anyways so I agree with you. Touchbar is a downgrade in my opinion anyways. 8 core gpu and 7 core gpu models on the air don't make much difference either. These aren't made for extreme video editing but Apple is happy to charge you for upgrades that will be bottlenecked. I would still probably get the 8 core gpu air for resale value other than that it is a fine portable laptop for kid to go off to college with for school

Who needs local storage with the unhackable iCloud?
Their daddy Steve Jobs would never mislead them.
OP please add price to the title, like all the other slickdeals threads get
