Separate line? I guess it overpasses the trap? Does it have it's own trap? Also most clogged toilets will have certain stuff floating around in the water, especially things like toilet paper can probably easily block these small lines, still a good idea but I am not sure if it's that effective.

I can't believe it took 9 pages for someone to mention the ONLY toilet anyone should ever buy. Toto. No need to spend hours researching. Toto is the answer to every toilet question.
We've been installing Toto toilets in our remodeling business for years without a single complaint. IMO the best toilet for the money out there.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. What do you think of this American Standard for $73?

Very similar to what I bought for $70. Got the Homestead and it's very nice. I'd never heard of Penguin before, but AS has been around forever.

I have 3 of these. They all occassionally clog. 1 toilet rarely flushes well. But they have never gone over the rim. The overflow drain really works.

I want to try other toilets due to the clogging issue but none have the overflow protection like Penguin. I think perhaps after 25 years i the house some sewer lines need some cleaning....

I would certainly recommend these for the price.

Recently needed a new toilet. Been buying Lowes/hd toilets for years
This time I wanted 3 inch flush valve and standard height (not ada) with an elongated bowl. Went to a supply house and left with an American standard cadet pro for $189. I'll never buy another toilet from home Depot again. Especially a no name brand.
Interesting. I bought a name brand, American Standard toilet from Lowes two days ago for $70. :hmm:

The dual flapper is interesting but it's $35 to replace as opposed to 10 for a regular flapper. That's 1/2 the price of the toilet.

Edit: Just saw it's a 10 year warranty on mechanical parts so that helps.
You can also just replace the silicone pads that are attached to the bottom of the flappers without replacing the whole assembly. Amazon AT $17.

Just picked this up for $71 at my local Lowe's. I'd say this is a much better deal and toilet then the penguin model

Measure from the wall to the bolts on the floor. Make sure it is 12 inches and not 10 or 14.

By the way, some Jacuzzi toilets are also on clearance. I was able to get one for these for $100 (I liked the dual flush feature, and its one piece) https://brickseek.com/lowes-inven...1000181997 [brickseek.com]
12" to center of hole is standard rough in.

I just picked up two today and installed one. Love the overflow idea - since one I'm replacing just overflowed on me and pissed me off enuf to get new toilets. Ha. To the person who said small holes may not work as overflow - in my recent overflow, it was mostly clear water at the top that overflowed and I think three holes would have been enuf to prevent my recent experience from overflowing. Toilet seems solid and easily worth more than $64. It showed as $129 in large price tag and in small clearance tag, that I almost missed, it said $64. Fluid master fill mechanism - can't get much better than that. Quick flush with good force. Only neg I would say is that the exit hole that goes into the drain pipe seems a little small. Most toilet drain pipes are 3 or 4 inches In diameter and I would expect the exit hole on the toilet to at least be near 3" in diameter but this one may only be 2".

what about pee, surely a low flow saves water when it's only pee...
If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down! 😅. Come on now, 🤣

I've had this toilet for 10 years in my rental. Paid the full $165 a the time, but thought it was ultimately worth it due to idiotic tenants who don't know how to use a plunger. Yes this has saved me and my ceiling many times before.

I will say that the dual flush mechanism failed twice, the first time they sent me a replacement unit free, the second time I as over it and replaced the whole thing out with a standard flushing mechanism. I recommend going this route.

tl;dr if you have idiotic tenants on the second floor who flush stuff thats not poop - and also don't know how to use a plunger, buy it. Switch out flushing mechanism for standard one.
