I'm not an expert but here is my understanding.

C1 is manufactured in two factories, and one of them only makes the 'evo' panel. It's a lottery as to which one you'll get. Basically, if you are lucky enough to get the new evo panel then you can go into the service menu and just update it. The serial number will tell you whether you got the evo panel or not (you'll have to research that bit). But here is a post with instructions on how to change the settings to make the TV think it's a G1.

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/...t-60757623

I believe doing this makes the TV drive the panel harder (which the evo panel can tolerate), and thus peak brightness can increase a bit. There is a lot of misinformation floating about on the impact of doing this. Some folks initially said that it trashes the sound quality (since speakers on G1 and C1 are different), but supposedly that's not true. I believe Vincent Teoh on HDTV YouTube channel mentioned that same which contributed to that misinformation.

Regardless of whether there is any detrimental impact or not, the biggest concern is LG can potentially void the warranty in case there is any issue. For a $3000+ TV it's definitely not a risk worth taking.

My (very limited) research tells me that if you use this 'hack'', at best you'll get meager improvements to peak brightness. But at worst you may cause some unseen detriment (maybe reduce the life of the TV via faster burn-in), and also may void the warranty. Whether there is much difference between a C1 regular panel vs C1 evo panel when both are running the regular C1 settings - I'm not sure. My guess is that without the G1 settings (which I would advice against anyway), the difference is going to be so minor that most won't be able to tell the difference. I would just ignore the 'evo hack' or the panel lottery and enjoy the TV as is.

Maybe someone has more knowledge on the latest developments on this. But thought I'll share what I know. Hope this helps.
I have a CX and a C7 and there is no real difference in the image quality, even between 3 years of models. OLED is simply as good as it gets.

I have a Sony 75 XBR950H and watching Shadow and Bone, some dark scenes were not watchable because it's so dark. The LG oled has superior black but with HDR, how does it work in dark scenes? Really appreciate your comment bout OLEDs since I am quite interested in the OLED technology.
any of the lg oled's C7 (2017) and on will do just fine in those dark HDR scenes. Number one problem ive noticed is people forget to turn off energy saving which keeps the display dark.

i had a doubt regarding the fragility and warranty coverage on this tv. since the display panel is thin, there is a chance of cracking the screen. now buydig is offering 4 yr warranty which covers accidental damages and also there is video only (which offers substantially low price on this tv) in sf bay area which is my service area and was wondering whether warranty offered by video only and buydig are any good? any one with experience with either of them?

Saturday I stopped at Video Only and with almost no effort: $2.9k on the 77" C1 with 5 year warranty thrown in and free delivery. Plus tax.
Salesman also sold me on the LG SPY9A sound bar from $999.99 to $599.99 w/ purchase of the C1. Which was $1k cheaper than the Sonos setup I had planned. https://www.digitaltrends.com/sou...ar-review/

I can't say anything about the warranty offered by Video Only, but the CPS warranty which is offered by BuyDig gets some awful reviews on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/CPS-Consum...B002P39DUS

As I've stated before, making those reviews even worse is that the 4 and 5 star reviews are from people never using the coverage, just saying how easy it was to get and the peace of mind it gave them. The one and two star reviews are from people trying to get service.

Soooo...last week I ordered the 77CX at Amazon when it was $2700. After reading some comments in this thread I decided to go to Video Only and strike up a conversation with a sales rep. Long story short--I canceled my Amazon order and walked out of Video Only with the 77C1 ordered for delivery on Saturday at $2749.99 (before tax, obvs). Pretty happy with that deal and will certainly be going back to VO when I'm ready t upgrade audio. And big thanks to those who brought up Video Only in the thread.

My $.02. Sample size of 1, but I have a 3.5 year old 65% C7P OLED bought in early 2018. Worked great for 3 years, but in the last month there's been some sizable blue bleed onto the screen.

LG is replacing my panel for free, although I have to pay the repair cost.
Sort of similar to this and this thread.

So probably a $300 repair charge but you get a fresh panel out of the deal.

It was the Southcenter location. As far as replicating the deal, that might be up to you. Just be cool the with salesperson and make sure they know that you know what you're talking about. I never even mentioned the price of the 77C1. After talking with him for about 10 minutes he brought up price and I mentioned that I passed on a CX deal for $2700 the week before because I was still mulling things over and that's when he basically said for $50 more he'd sell me the C1.
