If I already have an SN7R, can I buy this and use the SN7R's rear speakers with this? If so, how do I pair them if they're already paired with the SN7R?
Thinking bout getting this for the living room and putting the rear-speaker-less SN7R with the guest TV.
Now that the Vizio M512a is finally available, I'd spend the extra $20 and get real rear speakers if you're considering this. RTINGS doesn't have their review up yet for it but even the cheaper Vizio M51a with virtualized height channels scores better on Atmos content (and overall) than this SN9YG.
I'm hoping we see the M512a for $400 or less before Black Friday but I'm weak and will probably end up grabbing one regardless.
edit: Omg the M512a was $300 on Amazon today and I missed it... balls.
Yeah, whatever methodology Rtings uses is highly flawed, as the Arc is rated lower than pretty much everything… while almost every single comparison test rates the Arc as best soundbar under $1000. I've owned both, and there's no contest (unless all you care about is floor shaking bass). Arc is VASTLY SUPERIOR.
Rtings goes into great detail regarding their methodology and supports their ratings via measurement in the link posted above. These are both good (for what they are) and really it should come down to personal preference about what you're looking for. The LG is an overall "out of the box" performer - it can't be touched by the Arc (for the price) due to the sub performance...and as anyone who knows anything about audio knows - subs do not equal "floor shaking bass".
These are extremely close in performance (aside from low end).
I have this sound bar. Bought it to pair with my 65" LG OLED. Paid about $600 for it in February, and it was replacing a Yamaha receiver with a mix of speakers to complete a 7.1 setup.
I'll say this: this sound bar, and likely any sound bar, simply cannot match a receiver with 7 speakers. There was a huge and immediate difference in overall sound quality.
I almost never feel like I'm listening to surround sound, regardless of the setting or content. Sometimes, the audio doesn't seem to process well/correctly, and sounds like it's coming out of a tin can, but those are isolated moments overall. It sounds pretty good with music, the subwoofer wirelessly connects without fail and adds some really good oomph, and it's nice using the same remote to control both the TV and the sound bar. And my setup is so much cleaner looking now. Fewer cables, fewer things in the room, etc.
I think you could do much worse than this, but I also know, at least based on my old setup, that this sound bar doesn't come even close to matching the sound quality you'll get from a receiver and a set of speakers.

You're 100% right - people who want a soundbar are likely looking for the ease and performance better than their TV speakers. There's plenty of people who will buy this and be blown away by the "Atmos performance" not knowing what they are missing out on with a true system you're referring to.

Unfortunately people try to compare them and it's apple and oranges.
Soundbars are designed to help people improve tv speakers without changing much of the aesthetics and convenience, not to compete with a surround system.
Like "Atmos" this is all subjective so it will be different for everyone.
The irony is most people have never heard a proper "Atmos" setup, so most don't even know what it's capable of.

Well yes of course because if you want proper at home Atmos, you're going to be spending at least 3-4 times the cost of this soundbar.

Well it depends on which soundbar, there are some pricey ones out there.
To be honest it's not completely about the price, another big hurtle is proper placement.
In the average home most people can't or won't want to go take the time to do it.
A good thing though is a good proper 5/7.1 setup is easier to set up and will rival if not be better than these entry level/alternative "Atmos" setups.
Unfortunately people just read "Atmos" and they automatically think better, which is not the case.
I have the 8yg and I love it. What people need to google and have a basic understanding of is room acoustics. I have this setup in a 12x12 room and it fills it with sound. Of course if I put this in my living room with higher ceilings it's gonna suck eggs. You also need to be sitting within a certain distance of the bar to experience the atmos effects. Atmos and true 5.1 HD sounds great especially with the AI room calibration.
I bought this sound bar open box from Best buy earlier this year for $550. I also bought the rear SPK8-S speakers as well.
Overall, I think it's a strong sound bar. It connects perfectly with my LG OLED, and pairs well with devices. I don't use the Bluetooth feature much.
Sound quality is great, and in my bedroom, I do feel that surround effect when watching Netflix's Formula 1: Drive to Survive.
Weirdly, when watching Dolby Atmos content on Disney+, like Loki, the vocal track can sound tinny. This problem does not occur when watching Netflix's Dolby Atmos content like The Queen's Gambit.
Overall, I strongly recommend this bar at this price. But I also recommend getting the rear SPK8-S speakers. Otherwise, it won't give you that full effect.
I had a LG atmos soundbar before. I thought it was great until I got the Nakamichi shokwafe ultra system. Do yourself a favor and just save up for a black friday sale on that

Any recommendations that have great atmos performance?
