College students, when this baby hits 1800 watts, you're gonna see some serious Ramen.

The wattage in the title is helpful to other members. It's a good request.

I don't know why you (not even the OP) would not want this.

I would still need a burner for it though.
You'd put a pot inside of your induction pot [thekitchn.com]. Your induction pot would have water in it.

I bought this to replace a NuWave induction cooker.
I liked the NuWave better as it seemed to have a bit more precise temperature control. However the Insignia works fine once you get use to the power settings. It does a great job heating up the pots and pans fast and is reliable. Like most induction cookers it's a little noisy but it typically goes away when I walk in the next room.

I own this. My kids say there's a pain-inducing high-pitched sound that comes from this when in use. I'm old enough that I don't hear it. Just a warning for those with kids or pets.

Got one last time around. Temp control inconsistent. Sometimes lowering temp will result in it going up 80-100F hotter. Turning off/on after adjusting temp seems to work as a workaround.

Edit: I check temps with an infrared laser sensor

Reviews seem mixed...anyone have experience this? Thanks
I bought this the last time it posted. I used it once and my cast iron griddle heated very quickly and I was impressed. However, the second time I attempted to use it, the plug arced and the LCD errored out with a voltage irregularity code. I returned it in-store.

This is a common error for cheaply built induction cooker. I got two rosewell brand cooktops that keep error out when cooking hot pot.

I rent a room in a house. Is it okay to buy it and use this without informing my landlady?

If you're toting around a battery powered generator that will run a 1800w load youre not camping.

Isn't the fun of camping cooking over a fire?

The highest power level is 1800W, however I almost never need to go higher than 3 (800W) with my Lodge 10.25" deep skillet. I don't fry or make steak though.
