Would consider it for basic Chromebook introduction use if it allowed you to control the interface with touch
Would rather wait on a deal with touchscreen control.
$259 will get you a touchscreen on a Lenovo with similar specs.
I am genuinely curious as to how this works.

The 11" version of chrome book only has 1 USB-C and 1 USB, so you'll have to spend more money to buy expansion USB hubs. The screen on this is HORRIBLE, vs. other TFTs I have. Looks like a 50s Techni-color had a baby with 20s Black & White picture. Picture looks straight up B&W at non-optimal viewing angle.

Here is how this would work, in general:
Let's say you earn enough money to have your next dollar of federal taxable income taxed at the highest tax rate, 37%, meaning you made more, after other deductions, than $518,401 for the 2021 tax year. The list price on this item is $229, so you would reduce your taxable income by $229, which would, in effect, reduce your taxes by .37 * $229, or $84.73. So if you paid less than $84.73, and received a reduced tax bill of $84.73, you would in turn have a net gain on the transaction.
If you made less than $518,401 after other deductions in the tax year 2021, the math would be different and you would get less of a benefit from the donation deduction, meaning you would need to pay even less than the $84.73 to see a benefit here.
With the price being $129 plus taxes, there isn't a positive benefit to this transaction, and, as called out before, it wouldn't withstand any regulatory pressure if that pressure was applied. State taxation will vary depending on the state and is in no way accounted for in my example.

Good explanation.
Plus you have to consider that to take a deduction at all you'd have to itemize. Nowadays with the higher standard deduction >90% of people do not itemize so this wouldn't even be an option in the first place.
You can claim $300 of cash donations if you take standard deduction but donating goods is not counted.
I hope the original claim was a joke and not tax fraud.
Thank you
