I'd recommend getting a portable monitor for $20-35 more that has multiple video output options (HDMI and USB-C)

No HDMI killed the deal.
Didn't think that would be a non troll statement in 2021.
I do wish the "stand" was better but it's a great product otherwise. EDIT: The stand is the flappy magnetic cover, sort of like some tablet covers. It can lay flat across the screen for storage but imo doesn't provide protection against any impact or pressure at all, just incidental scratches. And it's a pain to set up as a stand. Range is okay but not great, and it just feels flimsy. I'd much prefer the hard cover from my other screen, even if it does add a little bulk.
But the screen itself is great; I gladly paid extra to have USB C-only instead of multiple cables.
PS> No idea why people might think this is Mac only. Works great with my MSI Modern and an older ZBook too.

it is just another cable to plug and since HDMI doesn't carry power, you end up having to add addition power source
this is for the road warriors that want something extremely compact and easy to take to go
why be inundated with more cables and adapters when it works with most laptops' USB-C

I bought this back in Feb 2021 and it's working great so far. Only gripe about using these is lots of cables everywhere lol (monitor power cable, hdmi, laptop power cable, etc). Still beats lugging a heavy monitor around though. Unfortunately it's $165 atm, but maybe there's another brand that's closer to $125-150. I'll browse a little more and edit this post if I find one.

I've tried it with a chromebook even, and I'd guess it would even work with samsung phones with dex.

I bought this a few months ago at full price and returned it because it doesn't work with dex. For all other purposes the panel is great though.
For Dex to work the panel you are using requires it's own power source so in the case of a portable monitor like this is needs to have a built on battery to be able to be used with Dex.
