About as cheap as you are going to find this older wood handle version online.... one might expect that once gone, it will be the higher priced plastic handles. Although the oscillating tool has more or less replaced this tool, there is still the occasional use for it.

I don't think that would be a good idea... The teeth on this saw would cause all kinds of problems when contacting PVC pipe or electrical wiring.

Any experienced electrician can immediately feel a change in cutting before u actually cut into wire. O-tools are faster and cut nicer but they make more noise, more mess and if u need to carry it around every where it's easier to have this on ur pocket. Pros and cons to any tool.

For $3.11 just buy it! It's cheaper than the Harbor Fright saw and about half price form the usual "deal" posted every other month. These saws are super convenient for small jobs - cut outs for outlets and such.

You will know, or should realize when you hit a metal pipe, but electrical wires could easily be nicked or cut. Mostly for plunge cutting drywall and cutting out ceiling tiles for lights, switches, etc, if concerned, then use the powered oscillating tool to just the thickness of the drywall, or even a utility knife.

Was annoyed, I bought this 3 weeks ago to cut the hole for my whole house fan*, then looked and saw I got it for this exact price.

*it was good enough to make the pilot holes and corners, and a few inches, then I got tired and just took my reciprocating saw on the rest, knowing there were no obstructions.

Uh huh.... and by the time you 'feel' this change, you have already nicked the wire insulation or worse that has to be repaired. The difference is that most electricians have an idea where the wires should be. Best to just use the first inch or so of the blade when cutting existing, or an oscillating tool ---battery or corded, or even the cheap utility knife that causes the least mess, but more work. The teeth on this saw makes just as much dust as an oscillating tool, while carrying in your back pocket is often going to get into something.... usually the truck seat when you forget it is back there. Smilie

Nevertheless, at this price, I would and do have one in my toolbox.... not sure if this one does, but the one I have came with a plastic sheath over the blade to protect the teeth and other tools.

That is cool, but what did you do with the ceiling joists that was/were in the way? I put one in my parent's house years ago and on high, that thing will suck bugs through the screens that did not impress my Mother.
