I get these will be retail pricing, but that's a deal these days. Unfortunately it is in store only and there's no telling how many GPUs they will have in each store.
when markets are artificially limited there will be black markets
like with drugs
you can't complain when the solution would be to raise prices across the board to make the market coherent.
Proper limits could have solved the issue.. nvidia specifically markets the product to be for video games in a single card and single pc environment, not crypto mining and PROPER distribution would have satisfied 95% of demand, if not for pitting the intended market against another. Imagine if nvidia said they are mfg these cards for crypto and they will go to the highest bidder.. we'd see much faster regulation of that market than what is occurring..
Got a 3070ti in Manhattan, was going to start waiting at 3pm but ended up doing actual vacation stuff. Was up at 1am so I figured why not, headed over & managed to get a 3070ti FE. First FE owned!

No one is entitled to tell you how you should use your hardware. There is no "proper" consumer. Making this some kind of moral argument is just funny as video games are closer to a vice than anything else, there is a strong argument that its better for society that the miner get the gpu. Video games is a pretend life, the miner is playing real life.
A 3060 ti has about equal performance of the 2080 Super, and the Nvidia version retails for $400. 3060 ti also has ray-tracing capability. But only you can decide if it was worth it.
Thanks for the perspective. I agree upfront that deal seems more than worth it. However after some thought, I think I rather pay $100 more for convenience since camping out isn't worth it for me, nor paying $400 over msrp for 3060ti from scalpers online. Either way it's likely all these cards will be outdated anyways in 5 years with 4k gaming, with the exception of maybe the 3090?

First you argue that people who have time to sit in line for hours must be poor (which is the most a$$ backwards privileged thing I've heard in some time), then you argue that society would be well off by encouraging the most wasteful and environmentally damaging use of the item?
My friend works at bestbuy so he sold me 3 cards i also used his employee discount
I did not even line up as he put them away for me .
That's awesome, last time I tried that I was told only the employee could buy an item to use their discount. It was a very expensive item and he didn't have the funds. So I ended up getting another CC under mine with his name, he bought it, and gave me the card back. I think at the time that CC was giving back a nice cashback bonus for spending x amount every month for 3 months. So that covered that month's, and saved me a bunch on a great open-box item that was a lot more high-end than what I would have been able to buy otherwise. Miss those CC deals.
Crypto is the biggest scam the world has seen in centuries. Cannot believe that a bunch of fools would value some random creation billions of dollars. The 50th most valuable crypto is worth $40mm total. $40mm!!!!! Even if one of these fake currencies becomes worth something, who's to say it's gonna be Bitcoin? How about XRP, or Ethereum, or Dogecoin? It's winner take all - loser is worthless.
I'm not touching that junk with a ten foot pole. Sure, some people made millions. Congratulations, you found a bigger idiot to buy the toenail clippings you bought from someone else for $500 a toenail. Doesn't make you a genius. Just a smaller idiot than the guy after you.
Rant over: I'm just pissed that there is such a shortage of video cards for people who actually will use them for what they're for: playing video games.
You probably still pay with cash and don't use credit cards.
Forgot the word FRAUD which in many cases is immoral and some illegal
lol it's supply and demand, nothing to do with fraud. I said this before, but people need to find new hobbies.
It's not very heathy stressing over not being able to buy a product that has historically had significant diminishing returns after 2-3 years of release cycle.
This is literally a bubble that NVIDIA and AMD are abusing currently. The only good thing that will come out of it is that AMD has a big chance to level the playing field with NVIDIA due to RDNA2 and RDNA3
Fraud…I don't think it means what you think it means. Fraud would be buying one and then selling it but not sending it
Yup, not everyone pays attention in school.
Scalping a non-essential to life and safety item is not immoral. Waiting in line and selling at a higher price is no different than investing ones time in research of legally obtained information, buying a stock at a low price and selling later at a higher price. Whole stock and commodity markets operate this way.

by definition anyone who has the time to wait in line overnight at a best buy can't afford not to double their money.

Not happening. Worldwide shortage + miners + scalpers, it'll be a long, long time before anything is normal on gpus and most everything else again
