I don't have personal experience, so I couldn't tell you.

However, one of the biggest differences is the purpose. This is a gaming headset and includes a really high quality microphone with Sennheiser quality speakers and build.

This headset comes with 2 cables. The shorter cable has a stereo output and microphone input integrated into the same jack (TRRS). The longer cable has 2 jacks for plugging into the stereo output and microphone input on your computer or other audio device. Here is a video to explain the differences: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4hy63fEgA0 The easy way to remember is count how many black bands are on the jack. Generally,

1 black band = mono (single channel)
2 black bands = stereo (2 channels)
3 black bands = stereo plus mic input (3 channels)

Sorry to answer my own question but I was watching this review and I think that yes, this will work for me: https://youtu.be/zNjO98dZUGQ?t=147

Sorry if I wasted anyone's time!

I had a pair of Monoprice headsets where the ear cushions started to disintegrate getting black pieces everywhere. Everyone seem to have had these sennheisers forever, do the cushions ever disintegrate?
You can easily buy extra/better ear pads for $20 - $50ish.

How is compared to alienwareware wireless headset aw988?
I have both and I prefer these over the alienware. If the alienware was open back and addressed some issues (that f'n voice telling you when mic is on/off is so stupid!), I would prefer them. If you prefer closed back then you might prefer the alienware sound stage. I have been told that the mic on the sennheiser sounds better, but the alienware mic isn't bad either.

I also have the 37x and those are good as well (got both as open box in pristine condition for super cheap) I do appreciate the 38x having both cables especially in a case where a cable gets damaged (I think my mic cable on the 37x is having issues), so you could replace them. The 38x audio is a little better, and I think I remember that Joshua dude on YouTube having a good comparison video (I want to say the drivers were updated but I can't remember for sure). The 37x is the clear winner for color, though you could fix that by slapping a Wu-Tang Killah bee on the 38x. 😉

Another bonus over the 37x is the 38x comes with 2 sets of pads - velour and I think a pleather. I've kept the velour on as I'm used to those. I have a fat head (bigger than 7.5 hat) and the 38x is comfortable for long sessions. I'd say more comfortable than the alienware.

How does this headset compare to the philips fidelio X2?
I had the x2 Hrs with a mic attachment - the build quality is good on both but Phillips takes it with the beautiful leather and just the heartiness of it. (Although heavier). Unfortunately I returned the X2s as the "highs" were just too rough for me during games, music was no problem most of the time. It was like chalk on a blackboard. I guess it's a personal thing. With that being said the PC38x have been by my PCs side since they came out. They're just so damn good for what they are not to mention how convenient with the mic.

Thanks! Read a bunch of reviews and decided to pull the trigger.

This will be my first pair of open-back headphones so I'm hoping I like them for gaming and general use.

My experience with these seem to be against a lot of what I've read. They were pretty mediocre.

The pros were the build quality and clarity.

The cons were that I had to max them out to get any decent volume and even then I wished I had a little more, which is not what I read. These are not supposed to need an amp at all. They also have pretty bad vertical sound positioning to my ears. I thought for sure someone in Apex was above me when they were below. Last, there's some frequency, not sure which, that sounds pretty rolled off in the mids or highs. It sounds slightly muffled, like you're listening to a speaker with a blanket on it.

I thought something was probably wrong with that set, so I returned them to Amazon and got another pair directly from drop. Same thing. Hopefully this helps someone. I'm still looking for my perfect pair of headphones.

I've had my pc37x for a few years. The mic and audio sound great on PC & PS5. I had to buy a short cable (included with the pc38x) to plug into my ps5 controller. They are super comfortable and I can wear them for 6+hours without discomfort (I wear glasses).

Anyone able to compare these to HyperX Cloud II? I love my Cloud IIs, for the last five years or so. I also love my low end Sennheisers, but the Cloud IIs blow those away for gaming.

My Sennheiser game zero headset eventually split, but after many years of heavy use. I replaced it with some new earpads but they are definitely of lower quality.

i have the sennheiser hd558 and the game one. the hd558 has a softer ear cushion so i can use it hours on end and still comfortable. the game one is fuller and therefore more pressure towards the head, not comfortable for use over 1 hr. these may be like the game ones.

I wonder if it could be your motherboard.

Something many forget about is that older mobos use older sound drivers.

I'm glad they used Sennheiser quality and not Realistic or Best Buy insignia quality. 😝

I upgraded not too long ago with a MSI mag b550 Tomahawk which should be decent I would think. I got a HD58X jubilee and it doesn't have the same problem. Gets plenty loud. It also doesn't have the same problems of muffled sound or crappy sound positioning.
