The Coway is currently rated the top air purifier on WireCutter [nytimes.com], but in their review they rank the Winix at nearly the same performance.

If you get the Costco Winix on sale for $99 with the additional filters, that's definitely a better deal, but with wildfire season upon us it may be wise to purchase the Coway now.

How does this compare to the Costco Winix at $129?

These were $119 in December when I purchased for a gift but I haven't seen it that low since. Snagged one for myself at this price, with free next day delivery too! Thanks OP!

I'm not that guy but I bought this aftermarket filter and it fit well with no bad odor at all: https://www.vevafilters.com/produ...5627211459 When I go to the site it gives me a promo code for 15% off which is why I buy it there instead of Amazon but it is on Amazon too if you need it in 2 days.

I have no problem buying manufacturer replacement filters but for some reason the actual Conway brand filters have bad reviews complaining about the same awful smell spanning several years with seemingly no fix from the manufacturer. Most of the aftermarket ones on Amazon had reviews complaining about fitment.

LPT for those who use these air filters: Don't bother with the 'automatic' setting. On a recommendation I found (I think on wirecutter), I just set my filters to one below the max and let them run 24/7. All of mine (winix and conway) have been going for years with no issues. I'll kick them on to max every once in awhile to catch allergens if I'm airing out my house but otherwise there is no need for it to jump around from low to max.
I keep mine on the auto setting and it does a really good job of cranking up to max when we cook or there are strong odors

Paid $20 more 1 month ago, can I get a rebate?!? Excellent product. I needed this to suck up the dab vapors my new roommate doesn't care for. Works amazingly well.

We have a few Levoit ones around the house, but just picked this up for a larger kitchen/living room area. Hope it's worth it!

if you're in an enclosed 150ft room, the coway would be great.
if in a larger space, like an open floorplan, airflow becomes more significant, and id consider the dyson dp01 since it's something that can be sat on a desk and pointed in your direction (even though its overpriced etc).
That's not how that works. Look at CADR and what it is. The Dyson is just a fancy fan that happens to include filters inside of it. It does not sufficiently move air throughout the room to properly purify it. Certainly not to the point of being able to exchange the entire volume of air in a room every 12.5 minutes, as is recommended.

If you have a bigger room you should either buy a second purifier or buy something like a higher end Blueair or the bigger brother Coway 400.

They are the same. I own this for my office and bought another for the back bedroom. My house has allergy sufferers and I swear by Coway products. I have their larger 400M in my living room set to automatically come on for 12 hours daily. These work like a champ and filter replacement costs are not insane, given you go with non-OEM filters.
It doesn't have auto mode?

I bought two of the $100 Costco winix ones when they were on sale. If I had to choose, I would still go with the winix, no complaints and came with a years supply of filters so I would say the winix is better value and therefore better. I don't need to mess around with non OEM filters either since winix filters are sold for relatively cheap as well.
I like a deal, but all-around, you can't beat Winix.
Especially with Costco:
$100 gives you 2 years with Winix.
Genuine replacement filters go on sale at Costco for as low as $30.

how heavy is it? would be nice to have wheels...also how does it compare with the costco one Danby model on sale a few days ago?
Not heavy at all. Maybe 5 pounds maybe 10. Easy handle area to move it around.

FYI - Coway has an upgraded version of this purifier, it has WiFi and an upgraded carbon air filter. The new carbon air filter is much better, it has thousands of bits of activated carbon in a honeycomb type container, works way better than the flimsy carbon pad this one comes with.

BUT you can buy that new carbon filter separately and fit it into this air purifier with no modification, it has the same dimensions. It's a little tight, but it works. I even kept the flimsy carbon filter in there as a sort of carbon pre-filter.

So really the only thing you're missing on this model is WiFi, which is really just a gimmick in my opinion.

I agree, in terms of a deal you cant beat the 100 dollar at costco. But I am partial to the coway design.

yes the dyson performs poorly, but it's an example of the flow i'd want when covering a personal area within a larger space. it's not a good example due to its efficiency rating but it's the best i could come up with. most air cleaners are designed for full room circulation (understandably).

I'm looking for something to help circulate the air to minimize exposure to Covid in a 150 sq ft room with no windows in an office building. I'm reading that having an air purifier isn't protection from the virus, but it's better than not having one when you can't open windows otherwise
Yeah. More reading if anybody is interested, since it's an important topic.

By itself, air cleaning or filtration is not enough to protect people from COVID-19. When used along with other best practices recommended by CDC and other public health agencies, including social distancing and mask wearing, filtration can be part of a plan to reduce the potential for airborne transmission of COVID-19 indoors
The virus hitches a ride on airborne moisture drops exhaled by a person who is infected.

These particles don't float around indefinitely; they leave a person's mouth/nose and travel a finite distance before settling on surfaces at which point the virus soon perishes. That's why masks are fairly effective; they generally don't stop the virus directly but they do slow it down and they therefore travel a shorter distance.

Air filters aren't particularly effective at stopping COVID because, if you're downwind from an infected person, the air filter would need to pretty much be directly between you in order to have a good chance at catching those particles.

As you say though it is better than nothing.

Anyone else get a "delayed" notice from Walmart? Got it on the black model at 2am.

Edit: Just went back and looked at my emails. Got a shipment notification an hour ago and it arrives today. Not much of a delay!
