I bought two of these on Prime Day at this price and sent them back. I thought the audio quality was slightly inferior to the previous version and the follow-me camera movement was just ok. The deal breaker was/is Amazon constantly pushing content -- advertisements and some sort of news show would just play on their own. Even worse, voice commands were ignored or delayed to get it to stop. I was so frustrated that I did a factory reset and sent them back. Definitely best price of the year if you don't mind all that stuff.

I recently bought some Amazon echo's and was asked if I wanted to opt out during setup.

Are you still able to opt out of that sidewalk thing that all Amazon echos have?

Both Best Buy and Target have this price right now. I've been watching it for a while and this is the lowest I've seen it.

All the content and ads sounds so frustrating. Is there any way to disable it?

There is sort of. We setup one for a kids bedroom (echo show 5) and it's basically on "do not disturb " 24/7.
You can still issue voice commands from the device but it won't be able receive notifications, drop-ins, or other alerts.

I wonder if Amazon will price match. I currently have the 25% trade in discount in my account.

I dont like echo devices with screen. As someone mentioned, they have too many ads and things I didnt ask Alexa to do. She shows horoscope, irrelevant political news, recipes, its very annoying. I like the google homes with screen a lot better.

I own a few Echo Shows, not this one though, never had an ad "play" on its on own, as in video with or without sound. I don't have to keep it on the "do not disturb" mode for it to not play things on its own, that sounds like a glitch.

I set my echos to show pictures we upload to Amazon Photos so it works like a digital picture frame, but they do cycle your pictures with other content such as recipes, news, random facts and sponsored content. I find a lot of the other content interesting, but to each their own.

I say this as someone who has been heavily into Amazon Alexa ecosystem starting in 2014, and have had one of almost every type of device (except Auto).

I would never again buy another Echo Show because of the constant nagging with ads and displaying content I never asked for. It is insidious. No, there is no way to permanently stop them. Turning off home screen rotation, turning off all home content options, etc. do not work. As if it wasn't bad enough to have ad content appear as part of skills (e.g. "Try Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video!" appear on your podcast display, they now have gone full screen with their ads under the heading "Alexa for your Day". Never again.

You are correct on that point. So far, I've not seen a video play on its own. The annoyances I am speaking of are "Things to Try" and "Alexa for Your Day" ads.

You can control some content that was listed in what you quoted, yes. You cannot turn off Things to Try or Alexa for Your Day. You get that even if you've toggled off all home screen content options and turned off home screen rotation.

Look, I can be an Alexa hater just like everyone is here. But the comments about the constant ads are just not true in my case. I have the previous Show version and have not seen a single ad. The people complaining here have probably never been into the Settings before. The first thing i did when getting my Show was to go into the Settings and turn everything off that i don't need. The only thing that shows on my screen is the weather, album art, or family pictures. That's it. There has been minor annoyances like the "By the way…." Or a skill that the kids unintentionally enabled, but that's it.

You never see "Things to Try"? When you use a podcast or music player skill, you've never seen unrelated Alexa suggestions? Your home screen doesn't periodically go full screen with "Alexa for your day"?

To those who commented here about news, horoscopes, and the like, you are probably right that they didn't know those could be turned off. But that's not what I'm talking about. I was very clear to say I had all home screen content toggled off, as well as home screen rotation disabled. There is a "Things to Try" under Settings which leads a lot of people to think that can be turned off. But there is no setting there .. just a collection of "Things to Try".

Look, I'm not doubting your experience with your device if that's what you say. But don't start doubting mine. By the way, I'm running Fire OS 6.5.4.6 (NS6546/3378). Check yours. I do know that some have reset to factory settings to get rid of Things to Try and Alexa for Your Day, and that works, but it comes back when upgraded.
