About this book:
This new edition is illustrated with J.R.R. Tolkien's own artwork, created as he wrote the original text. It will be packaged with the following features: shrink-wrapped for damage protection, a sewn hardback binding with a ribbon placemark, ink-sprayed edges displaying Tolkien's runes, two maps loosely tucked, and will be printed on FSC "forest-friendly" paper. The text will be printed in two colors with full-color illustrations, and the dustjacket will be stamped in two foils with a circular die-cut.

I'm a little confused about the illustrations....they say they're Tolkein's (and the maps that are well know to any previous reader certainly are) but it also shows watercolor images in the Amazon reviews, that are decidedly NOT Tolkien's (they look like they're from a different edition, one that I have which is three hardbound volumes with art by (Alan Lee? Brian Froud? Someone along those lines), which were done after the movies (many are based on the visualizations created for the movies. As far as I know, Tolkien didn't do illustrations like these. I assume this is part of the usual issue with Amazon where they lump reviews for multiple related things into one glob of commentary. Just be aware.
*edit: yes, the watercolor illustrations showing up in the amazon reviews section are from the 2013 or earlier version, and are by Alan Lee, not Tolkien.**
YOU SHALL NOT PASS... on this deal if you loved the story.
Just want to point out if it isn't obvious to people, this is the three Lord of the Rings books bound into one book.

I have always dreamed about owning this one. now at this price I can Achieve my dreams of owning it! Im going to share with many of this great offer of such an amazing book ! Going to keep me on my chair for many hours of non stop entertainment! Thanks for the post
Is this the best version that's out? Or is there a better version of the books?
Depends whether you like illustrated editions, or prefer individual books instead of one ginormous volume ultimately. I'm pretty sure you can find pages or youtube videos explaining all of the different editions though.
They're just going to keep milking this trilogy aren't they. Don't get me wrong, this is my favorite trilogy of all time…but still…🙄
I think there is another version coming out next year. It's also an illustrated version but this time, it's an illustration of Tolkien doing the illustrations for this book.
Order this if you want a damaged book. Amazon uses no cushioning with books. It's almost guaranteed to have a smashed corner.
Truth. All books I receive from Amazon have at least one smashed corner. That said, they are always good for a partial refund of ~20% if you're willing to live with the damage.
At first I was skeptical but I'm happy to see 15k reviews for this already despite it not being out yet - so I'll know my money is well spent in 3 months when people first get their hands on it.

The Lord of the Rings Illustrated Deluxe Edition is limited to just 5,000 copies worldwide, and it's only coming out in the UK and Canada. Featuring "raised ribs on the spine and stamped in two foils," the pages of this massive tome are "are edged in gold," and the entire thing is "quarterbound in cloth and leather."
It comes in a slipcase and contains the Tolkien illustrations found in the regular Illustrated Edition, as well as "two poster-size, fold-out maps revealing all the detail of Middle-earth."

And here I am, spending $170 on UK preorder, without thinking much how I'm going to justify having another (8th, I think) edition of LOTR in my dusty collection.

You're in the minority, they're excellent imo, especially love the maps.
