The TN/VA border area, it’s one MSA/CSA around Johnson City, I believe.

Hehehehehe, Johnson.

Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol TN are all near the VA state line. Bristol is even divided down the middle by the aptly named State Street, which has TN on one side and VA on the other.

Pandemic actually taught me how to cut my own hair better than any barber has. It's not rocket science.
I cut my whole family's hair now too. And the haircuts look decent.

Saved so much money in haircuts this year and a half.

How much exactly should I tip
See above.

If you're a woman and your haircut is $50+, then you tip more. I'd say once you get into the $100-150 area, the tip is $20.

do you realize that there are plenty of peer-reviewed studies out there showing that there is statistical significance in the tipping disparity for waitresses/waiters of different races?
Have they done peer-reviewed studies on the service quality disparity for waitresses of different races, or is that off limits?

Just wanted to share an encouraging thought. If any of y'all are able to use this coupon and you do get a significant discount, compared to what you normally pay for a haircut, you should use that as an opportunity to tip a little more generously. 🤠
better yet, post you pictures . . . we will decide if you got what you paid for laugh out loud

I wasn't aware that $10-$20 tip is customary now. I still tip $2-$3 and I have been going to the same barber for 10 years.

the coupons we received in the mail on the junk mail wrapper were for $7.99. just used 1 and left a decent tip cause the stylist was very friendly and professional and cut off quite a bit of hair.

$2 tip here, or $3 if they take more than about 5-7 minutes.

When Covid lockdowns were first starting, I tipped $5+ a few times to help them out a little more.

If someone can regularly crank out 5-7 cuts an hour, an extra $10-$14/hr on top of their regular wage seems pretty solid to me.

My wife spends 2-3 hours in a stylist's chair, pays $100-$150, and tips $20. Apples and oranges

Tipping is a way for the working class to get by on minimum wage. Tipping use to not be taxed, now it is at least in my state. What I don't understand is how can Jeff Bezos with a net worth of 177 billion not pay federal taxes but a struggling waitress has to pay taxes on tips barely getting by. Something is very wrong with that. I do tip $5 when I have used this coupon in the past.
first of all that is nonsense. bezos payed on average $250+ million in taxes every year. He is an investor not an employee so he gets to pay less and write off bunch of stuff. In addition his billions are in amazon shares. here is aling that will help you understand. [youtube.com]

i think you are confusing amazon from bazos, the two are not the same. as for amazon playing low taxes, here is an explanation on how. [youtube.com]

Maybe you should ask your employer why they pay you minimum wage? Why you have to rely on tips to survive? Ask the government why the minimum wage is not enough to live?

Tipping is a choice not a mandate. It's not the customer's fault that you didn't get pay enough.
Just wanted to say I have a daughter with 2 college degrees making more as a waitress than many white collar jobs. Also know several other grads doing the same that enjoy the job. Tipping is incentive based pay and if a server does a good job they make good money in many cases.

do you realize that there are plenty of peer-reviewed studies out there showing that there is statistical significance in the tipping disparity for waitresses/waiters of different races? that alone should suggest that tipping is a toxic culture, not to mention the entitlement complex to go along with service providers expecting tips, and the variance in the amount each person tips for the same type of service. the US is one of the few countries in the world with this ridiculous culture, and it was founded from a time where owners were struggling. absent of COVID, that struggle is no longer relevant.

yes, it is actually as simple as abolishing tipping and having employers pay their employees more and employers can subsequently choose to up their prices for compensate. this way, things are actually normalized and not reliant on things of high variance.
Instead of abolishing someone else's business have you considered starting one of your own?
