bought them a few years back. colors look cool. after 2 years, the colors are starting to peel. now I am leaning towards stainless steel.
nice price to use and throw.
why throw away dull knifes? Just buy a knife sharpener and you can keep using the knives over and over.
Lol. No. I've been using these for YEARS with a knife sharpener. I wipe off the edge after I sharpen to get any residual metal, etc off before I use it.

This is exactly what I do. They're razor sharp from the factory. Use them until they dull a bit, then replace them. I'd get more, but already have 3 sets at this price.

Would you be able to recycle when you throw?

Well the cut edge isn't colored, so the ceramic coating on the rest of the blade will stay intact as long as you don't have your angle too shallow when you sharpen.
The edge on these is absolutely colored/coated, the entire blade is. I suppose if you use the sharpener enough you can just 'clean off' the coating and strip it from the sharp part of the blade, but in my experience once it starts to chip the first time the coating comes off super easily even when cutting simple things (butter, fruit, etc.).

I'd avoid any painted blade. Food will stick to it and it adds resistance. This I can say from experience.

Well, I have hoarder's disease, so I never *really* throw anything away. I just repurpose them for like garage work and stuff. By the time I'm done with something, it's because it's so beaten to shit that there's literally nothing left it can be used for.

That said, the handles are plastic, you you may have to separate them from the blades before recycling, depending on the rules of your local program.

The set I own are not coated on the edge. If you look closely at the product image from the macy's page, you can see the edges are not coated: https://slimages.macysassets.com/...$&fmt=webp

except maybe the serrated one; that one's hard to see. My set didn't come with that particular blade so I can't confirm.

Why do these toy-colored knives cost 1/3 of the price of regular stainless steel knives? Shouldn't it be less work to not paint a knife? I.E. cheaper?
These are garbage knives. This deal constantly gets posted here by SD staff and added to the 'promoted' section of the front page. If you find them on Amazon you'll see a ton of 5-star reviews with pictures of them right out of the box and then you find the reviews where people used them and it's a completely different story. The handles break off, the paint chips or 'wears' off into the food. It's like these are children's toys but for adults. I don't know if it's Macy's or Cuisinart that pays SD to promote these and reviewers to rate them but there is definitely something fishy going on.

You can sharpen these but the coating comes off and in your food. Cancerous to say the least…

Lol. There was a time when people actually had facts to back up their statements. Show us the data that these cause CANCER.

Lol. I've owned these for at least 6-7 years. I keep them sharp and use them at least twice a week. Of course the coating comes off along the edge where you sharpen them. What would you expect to happen when you are physically removing material as you sharpen? Lol. The coating does NOT come off above the sharpened edge. They don't "chip" as some people claim. After each sharpening I wipe the edge along a cloth to remove any tiny particles, just as I do with any other knife, coated or not. And NONE of the handles have shown any wear or become loose. I don't baby these and they get washed in the dishwasher a couple times a week...for YEARS.

I ordered a set of these the last time they went on sale. I was surprised at how sharp they were out of the box. You won't be shaving with them but they have a nice edge. I figured for the price of the knives if I don't want to sharpen them I don't have to. When I saw them on sale this time, I ordered myself another set and two other sets for Christmas gifts.

Well to each his own then because I've looked at several sets of these on Amazon and they all have 4.8+ stars with an 'insufficient' rating on fakespot because the reviews are just overwhelmingly fake. Seriously, take a look: https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-...HWFLS?th=1

Every 5 star review with pictures is of the set fresh out of the box. Thousands of reviews of the product before a single person has cut a single food item. It's absurd. As soon as you get to the rare negative review it's from a person who actually used them. Handles falling off, paint chipping, paint wearing off on the food, ect. One of the pictures even shows a person cutting into a block of cheese and leaving purple on it. Also take a look at the ones where the handles fell off. The tang on the thing is like a 1/2" long. There is no way that holds up to any sort of rigorous use by it's very design.

I don't trust fakespot.
These roughly $1.50/each knives are NOT for "rigorous" use.
I'm sure there are defective knives out there.
I know mine are holding up VERY well and don't leave coating chips on my food.
I like them so much I've given them as gifts to family and friends over the years.

Btw..i bet fakespot would call my post "fake". Lol. I guarantee it's algorithm is set up for sentences like "liked it so much I gave as gifts to family and friends" 😂😂😂😂

I enjoy a good deal as the next person and value what little $ I have but geez for $10 for a set of knives there sure is alot of negative feedback. I bought a similar set 2 years ago and dont mind getting a new set every few years. They do what their supposed to do, its not a $100 knife set.
