Just adding my experience. I have an older version, dif brand most likely, but have had them installed for 2 years or so. The thing is, if you install them like it shows in the product pictures, then yes dumb idea. I installed them so they only shine down at my feet and under my seat so at the rear passengers feet. They never turn off, day or night, that's my preference. Even at night I hardly notice them on, because they're just ambient light way below my eyesight. Other driver's bluish HID lights are 1000x more distracting than these will ever be.

If your argument is that buying these makes your car similar to a luxury car since those have LEDs inside, then I think you're in the right place.

This is a much better deal and quality product than those that are sold at the B&M automotive stores like Autozone and AdvanceAuto. I'd would buy all of these sets for decorating cars for nighttime parades that sometimes happen during the holiday season or Mardi Gras for the Gulf South(when we get out of this pandemic).
But if I'd be installing this myself then I'd opt for a slow install, and hopefully a secure one that is tastefully done with more custom diffusers or adding some fiber optic lines to show the lines inside the car.

I have them in BMW as well. I think they actually help as it gives just enough light that you can see the interior at night without being distracting. Say if im reaching for a tissue or something silly while going 150mph. laugh out loud

Who cares what you describe as trashy? And what does that have to do with this deal AT ALL. I'm not installing these lights to impress you, or anyone. I'm installing them to help my over-50 eyes see the floor of my truck better if I am looking for a tool or if I dropped something at night.

Have these installed on my Infiniti. Hardwired them to dome lights so they only illuminate the foot wells when the doors open, or when I turn on the dome lights.

Only complaints:
1) RGB = no pure white
2) sometimes forgets the last setting it was on, so when the doors open, it's a RGB strobe light party instead of classy footwell lighting

At this price I'm tempted to try again in case I got a dodgy unit last time

Honest question here since there is a lot of outside noise in this thread. If you plan to hardwire (and not use the 12V cigarette lighter), why can you not buy the home LED strip lights and hardwire?

Installed mine yesterday. It was fairly easy to hide the wires. We will see how long the adhesive holds, might have to screw/zip tie at some point. Haven't had a chance to play around with it yet but I'm satisfied for 13 bucks. It certainly doesn't turn my 15 year old F-150 into a BMW, but the naysayers were full of $h!t..as usual.
