I know more than one business that does exactly this: If a customer calls after hours and needs emergency service, the message gives them an emergency contact #. Just as the original poster describes, one employee is designated each week to carry the "emergency" phone, and receives a bonus while agreeing to remain available, and sober. (Plus, or course, paid extra to respond to any service call.)
100 minutes a month is more than sufficient for a lot of small businesses that do this. And of course you can add additional minutes to the Tracfone plan if you run low.
Exactly.

Or even a small team in a large corporation.

For a shared device that changes hands every week, and receives very few calls, a flip phone meets our needs far better than a smart phone. Everyone still has their personal smart phone.

So, I am thinking of getting this to use to access Verizon's network only when driving and when having left T-Mo's service area (rural Indiana, it happens a lot). I only want this to hotspot so I can use Waze on my primary phone for realtime traffic/LEO updates.

Is hotspotting permitted?
Visible wireless night work for you, 40 a month and can be brought down to 25 with party pay, Verizon coverage even with deprioritization, in rural area might still be effective

Hmmm...little suspicious of this deal. As a Tmobile user, I got their letter saying in a couple months my phone/sim card will not work when they upgrade to 5G, so makes me wonder if someone is unloading their current technology stock prior to upgrades by these networks to 5G and if you buy this where do you stand when your carrier upgrades (the usual no problem just upgrade to this 5G phone with a new contractual commitment that makes your $25 look like chump change?)? Don't really know, just reaching out to ask someone who actually knows

Can we use this on totalwireless locked iPhone XR that's available for 210 $, currently my iPhone XR is on Totalwireless and is locked.
Per conversations in other threads, you should be able to activate but the year most likely will not go towards your unlock time on the phone if you are looking to unlock the phone and move to another carrier after a year.

Ordered 3 from 3 accounts using 1 credit card. Got 3 warnings from ebay, not the seller, that orders will be cancelled.

I am confused. So after activating the "new" SIM card, you still use the "old" SIM card but the "new" one is useless?
That statement is wrong, should be corrected, must be a typo.

Correct statement is (I did two last night, see my post below), you throw away the old sim and start using the newly activated sim. You should see your year is extended immediately, but minutes/data will take about 15 minutes to show up (combined with old balance). Reboot your phone with the new sim a few times if you are bored waiting.

Does TF have a rule where you have to send a text message every 3 months to keep the account active?

Upon checking I jsut realized I had a few spare preloaded SIM cards from Dec 2019 and April 2020. Not sure if they expired or not, I activated two of them online one at a time last night, both worked. Time is extended by 2 years and new balance is added to old balance. All good even with a 18month old Sim.

Now my question is, my phone is a Tracfone locked phone (Acatel flip) with a Verizon Sim good into 2023. I have 2 more preloaded TF AT&T sim cards. Before I activate these two AT&T sims and add more time and balance to my account, I would like to know if there are tricks/risks if I move to an unlocked compatible Moto phone (G7 Power) with the AT&T SIMs?

Any tips would be appreciated,

Can you share how to add it on top of your existing line? Thanks

...I have yet to hear a good reason to get an emergency/secondary phone. Still waiting.
My main reason is for those odd times I leave home and forget my phone. I keep the backup in my car. I can avoid being caught with nothing and avoid having to drive back to pick up my main phone. It happens now and then.
I can use plans like these also for things that require additional phones to replicate those "1 per number" coupons, deals, offers via texting, when other alternatives like GV won't work. Also a nice alternative for selling locally via CL or FB Marketplace. Easier to ignore creeps if they try to bug you.

These things may not apply to you, but since you asked...
HTH!
