Based on Tomshardware review, it seems that this one is the least efficient and runs hotter than both the SN850 and 980 Pro. For the tight space of the PS5's SSD compartment, I would lean towards those 2 options, before the Sabrent. Although, I'm sure with a heat sink, I'm sure it will be ok. But I also recall Sabrent making some changes in the past to their chipset for the non-plus SSD I think, that caused a decrease in performance. So, I lost a little trust in their product/brand.

I went with the WD 850 2TB for my PS5
This is the SSD Sony unofficially endorses, but with the heat sink.

great for ps5, if you have one
I could be wrong, but I think one of the SSD specifications Sony strongly recommends (requires?) is a heat sink, which this doesn't appear to have. Don't take my word for it, but something to consider.

Honestly at PCIe Gen 4, the speeds are all so similar and consistently higher than Gen3 SSD, that you cannot go wrong with any, whether it is Samsung 980 Pro, WD Black SN850, Sabrent Rocket 4 etc. Buy the one that is on sale, and fits best in the super small enclosure. M.2 NVME Gen4 will be blazing hot, no matter what they say, so don't skimp out on a heatsink.

While the Firecuda is great and has the built in heatsink, I tend to put Seagate below most now due to their level of failures. But I have yet to use this SSD. Personally, I would wait. Not only will there be a rush on these SSD for those who want to install for beta, but now that the established requirements are there, all the manufacturers will come out with new variants with heatsinks that will conform to the PS5. This is a good price though

Yes also that top you tuber also gave the thumbs up for this one the WD850 I also ordered with the heatsink, it only makes SSD sense since it will get hot- one thing I noticed is that the PS5 runs a bit hotter then the Xbox Series X

Does Sabrent post endurance numbers (TBW) yet? One to two yrs ago, they didn't and when I contacted the customer relations the answer was "we don't publish that information".
To me, the endurance TBW specs are only behind the price for importance, followed by performance numbers.
Without endurance and warranty information (both are necessary), strong pass.

Not sure I want to risk a big purchase with a 3rd party seller.
It isnt an unknown third party. This is the official sabrent store on amazon. You are good if u buy from them. Warranty and everything. Just make sure u register the drives for a the full 5 year warranty or else its just 1 year.

My non plus model sabrent gen 4 drive 1tb crapped out after 8 or 9 months a few days ago. It was without warning. Just blue screen of death then the drive is totally dead. Cannot be recognized by windows or my motherboards. It was a pain in the ass to lose all my data since it was a booth drive.

Had to request rma. They required pictures of my invoice and of the drive and pictures of it inside your mobo and how its set up. Even had to send them pics of it not registered in mobo and ur motherboard mobo name... a lot of work before they issued me an rma label. But at least it was prepaided... but sadly they dont cross ship me a replacement. Hopefully they dont send me some refurb crap replacement.

I had the old sabrent gen 3 rockets before this. 2tb. That one is still working. I wouldnt trust them again as my boot drive.

Thanks for all of these comments, I will wait until another compatible SSD for PS5 is $150 or so. I think I can hold out until BF.

I'd say it depends on the game. My XSX runs real hot when I play Flight Simulator. Conversely, my ps5 digital puts off very little heat no matter what game I'm playing.

I got cha, makes sense of the game- graphically depends on the game, it's just what I noticed so far.

If your not purchasing the 2tb I don't see the point. The most you walk out with is like 840gb

I think I will wait. I think Sony may have secretly made a deal with a manufacturer, and come out with custom SSD with custom heatsink built-on. Though I think it is great that Sony made it open to any drive that meets, or even exceeds the requirements.

Can anyone else confirm that this is good for PlayStation 5? I know that we definitely will need the heatsink. I am not sure if I should buy now or wait for the official update. Thanks!
See notes from The Verge on PS5 SSDs. This one is mentioned, but will require a separate heat sink. https://www.theverge.com/platform...ystation-5

I've got a friend who was given one of these by his client because his client was upgrading for only $50 because he was broke and hungry. Tried to give him $100 after I looked up the price but he said nah.
Great little drive. Quite speedy. Would recommend a regular SSD for the price.

If there's no TBW then that probably means you don't need to worry about TBW. That is an entirely warranty based term anyway and if they are not going to have one then if it breaks within the X year period covered by warranty you'll be given an RMA regardless of written level.
