Serious question here: Why would I need this if every cycle my dishwasher already scalding hot water and harsh chemicals that are able to remove burnt cheese from dishes? What could possibly deliver a 'deeper clean' than that?

Best cleaner I've found is just straight citric acid. It's cheap and you can usually buy it out of bulk bins in grocery stores. Alternative to that could be Tang powder.

honestly i have no idea but it did seem to make my dishwasher seem cleaner/whiter... I mean I could just be imaging or wishful thinking but anyway, it doesn't hurt and for $3 it isn't bad just to be cleaner.

Even using the sanitize cycle which removes 99.9% of food-borne bacteria, there can be chemical residue left behind from detergents. That's why manufacturers still recommend using these from time to time to remove it.

Why not just use citric acid?

We could not get this to work, it works on the premise of putting it upside down on the bottom rack of your dishwasher and then setting it on the hottest setting. There is a wax plug that is supposed to melt away during the wash cycle and release the cleaner, we ran through 2 full cycles and the wax plug was still in tact. I had to thin out the wax plug and run it through a 3rd cycle and it still barely worked. We have a middle of the road dishwasher that is only 2 years old fwiw.

I get this for the same price at my Walmart. Not sure if prices of other markets but I would def grab some if the price is high in your area!

It's more about mineral scale buildup. Vinegar or periodic citric acid works too.
