From what I've read, this does not seem to have DRAM cache.

I mean sure. You'd need a housing or one of those dock things for it tho I think.

I have that question also.
I have a 3.0 external enclosure.
My question is the durability of an SSD.
The reason I ask this is I take a PS4 with me when I travel quite often. Because I've had issues with the upgraded hybrid drive due to vibration etc I usually just take it out while traveling. Not being terribly familiar with SSDs I would assume they would be more durable, maybe?

Is that important for an older PC I'm looking to update? Just starting to look into this.

Thanks

It has to do with longevity of the hard drive. Not having DRAM means it won't last as long, basically.

It has no moving parts, so there's nothing to vibrate. Short of smashing it with a hammer there's not much you could do to it physically under normal use that would cause it problems.

If we're talking physically more resistant to drops/vibrations yes, an SSD will be more durable than something with an HDD in it. As long as the board/connection doesn't get busted you should be fine.

It won't be quite as fast when writing some files, and it may not last quite as long as a drive with DRAM, but for normal everyday consumer use this will still be a huge upgrade over a standard spinning hard drive.

What hard drive? This is a SSD.
SSDs are still generally considered "hard drives" as apposed to "floppy drives" (which is a relic and very rarely exist anymore.) Hard drive and hard disk drive (HDD) are often incorrectly used interchangeably.

It depends a lot on how often you write to the drive. That's why dramless SSD's are best used for storage and not an OS drive. I mean you can use it as an OS drive, but like was said, its lifespan won't be as long as a SSD with DRAM cache.

Dramless cache SSDs may also have their write speed degrade as the drive fills up. Depending on a number of factors (controller, cache, software, etc.) a full dramless SSD's write speed may slow down to that of the HDD it's replacing.
