I was thinking the same. Would wrapping them tight in grocery bags keep it better?

What does it do for pools, out of curiosity? I used it when my dog had eye mites. Worked awesome

It does cake up quite easily but I found if you use a strainer, the clumps break up quite easily. I place the mesh strainer in my pool and then pour the borax into the strainer, the water helps to break up the clumps faster, it only takes a minute or two to do even the clumpiest box for me.

I used to have yearly algae problems with my pool, no matter how well I monitored the chemical balances or what testing kit I used. Switched to the borax method for maintaining pool chemistry and no issues since.
