EDIT 8/25: Thread originally is for ATT version but now looks like sane seller has the unlocked TMO version as well for $10 more. Brand new, warranty, ect.. the TMO version is better since it's using MediaTek 5G chip, the Dimensity 1000C, instead of the SD 765G, which is on all the other variants.

LG Velvet TMO variant $269

No.

1. Screen password, pin or pattern is needed to access TWRP. Unless your wife stole your phone I doubt a thief would know your code. TWRP can't decrypt a device without your lock method.

2. Google has reset protection. You can reset any android phone, doesn't matter if the bootloader is unlocked. If I steal your S21U I can easily hard reset it from Samsung's recovery mode. In fact, I did just that to fix my sister's Tab S7 after she forgot the pin.

After reset the device will start as normal. HOWEVER. It will ask for the previous user's Google account. This cannot be bypassed. Essentially rendering the phone useless

3. When a phone is stolen you're supposed to report it to your carrier. They'll blacklist it. Yes, the thief will still sell it for parts on eBay. Not much you can do about that

4. Thieves don't care about a random person's data. Even if they have your phone, everything worthwhile is protected by a lock screen, fingerprint or face ID
Interesting, I thought the unlocked bootloader phones can easily be completely wiped using ADB and flashed new rom that does not require google login of previous owner after reset.
If that's the case, why all the push back from carriers on unlocking bootloaders for "security" reasons?

I've used Samsungs and Pixels and none have given me the grief that LG has.

Bootloops on G4, also Nexus 5, and the LG tablet X 8. Screen burn on a backup V30 phone with a purple tint over the whole screen? It was a faulty display, and I got it covered through my 3rd party warranty after waiting a year for it to kick in (yes, that happened in under a year). Charging port - also within the 1 year on the V30 on the same backup phone. It had less than 10 charge cycles on it.

If you want to fanboy, go ahead, but LG lost the war and for good reason.
Nexus 5 probably an issue with the SoC (Qualcomm) or software (user fixable). Mentioned the G4 already (LG's fault), not sure about the tablet X8. Idk which Pixel phones you have owned, but they were once manufactured by HTC/LG.

Do not appreciate being called a fanboy for trying to assess your anecdotes. Most people have had an issue with their phones at some point. Need to understand why that issue manifested, whether or not the issue is the fault of the phone manufacturer, and how they responded to properly contribute to a deal post.

FTR probably one of the less brand agnostic people in this post. Between 2010-2021 I've gone through PalmOS, WebOS, Symbian, WP7-WinMo10, BBOS, and Android phones. Would repair or refurbish damaged phones I bought from eBay/CL, use them for a awhile, then sell/give to family. Had my share of duds, including a bootlooping V10.

LG is a conglomerate, and the smartphone market is on the decline (flagship devices in particular). It's one of the reasons why manufacturers are trying to create a new foldable category. Few years ago the writing was on the wall when they added ThinQ to the branding (using phones to add value to their home appliances). LG tested the waters with their dual screen cases and the Wing.

Leadership decided to cut the fat, only losers are the employees and us, the consumers.

There is no VoLTE on T-Mobile or any none- at&t network...
Also, there is no so called "5G sim card" in T-Mobile.
you almost cannot surf and talk....
Right, there is no VoLTE. but I can still make and recieve voice calls on tmobile. it's not great, but it works for me.
I don't know if there is a difference in sim cards. but i have an unlocked iphone 12, tmob reps gave me a new sim so i can use 5g. that same sim i use in the att LG velvet and I get a 5g signal.
granted 5g is very poor where I am located.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet in this thread, but if anybody is interested, this is one of the cheapest new phones that does video out over usb-c.
you can mirror, or use a desktop mode. it's not as fleshed out as samsung dex. but i find it useful.

Without T-Mo's VoLTE software/implementation on the phone though, you won't be able to use it for calls on T-Mo after about the end of the year. Beginning Jan 2022, T-Mo deactivates legacy voice support, and only supporting their implementation of VoLTE, for all voice calls. I haven't checked phone news lately, as to whether T-Mo is sticking to the Jan 22 timetable, but as far as I know, that's still the current cut-off.
If this ATT version doesn't support/load T-Mo VoLTE software, then it's dead for calls on T-Mo starting January.

They don't mention it in these specs, but the phone is really durable. After my Huawei died a year ago during a fishing trip, I bought this phone... IP68 and MIL-STD-810G. It also has a really nice battery. With moderate use, it can last 2 days. I took it to the water park all summer and kept it in my pocket when I'm in the pool and doing rides. I did lots of underwater video without using a special case. It's been a great phone in this regard.
They sure don't list many specs. What 4G bands does it have? What 5G bands? They don't even list what SoC (CPU) it has. It must be low end.

Guys, a Google Pixel 3 XL will be a better choice than this phone. Pixel 3 will get the Android 12. This phone only Android 11. Also they don't list 4G bands, 5G bands. Not even CPU. Why? Must be a crap.

I would stay from LG/ATT phones. I can't enable LG G8 hotspot on other carriers - they crippled APN entries.

This is incorrect. Lg is supporting phones from 2019 and after for 3 years.
As someone that's works for a major carrier I can say the last software update was on 5/27/21 and that was Android Security Patch 2021-5-1 but has received nothing since (they were doing updates every other month prior to this). So they have already broken their pattern.

Well let's hope it's just a bump in their upgrade promise.

GSM Arena is your friend to find specs. cpu is SD 765g, which is a great mid-tier chip that will basically handle everything, even multitasking.
I don't understand why people get so caught up on OS updates. security updates maybe. but most ios and android updates do little more than add useless features and consume more resources.

how is that remotely relevant as at&t is not the seller???
That's the point, the phone goes for a much lower price on ebay, but AT&T saw it fit to take advantage of an elderly woman with next to nothing fixed income instead of selling her a cheaper phone. It's a PSA heads up.

I know with AT&T phones if they don't have the phone identified correctly in their system it will have issues with hotspot and visual voicemail. So if you switch sims between phones, this can happen. Might check and see.
