The 10600k is the best bang for the buck if you can find a reasonably priced moto. I bought the KA and 590UD mobo for $280 on new egg a while back.

After building, upgrading almost every year or 2 I just realize that I dont need to spend money to upgrade only to find out I dont even use all the power and features. I still have my Core i3-9400 pair with gtx 1060 and it still runs most game at max settings for me. Saved so much money since then so I advice those in same situation as me to just buy what you need, maybe a few year

This particular seller says non-returnable. No thanks.

9900k is worth it for video support alone (especially in today's GPU market) especially when its just $14 more AND returnable.

The latest computer news outlets have been reporting that Windows 11 can be installed on PCs not fitting all requirements if you install it the old school way off of an ISO. Apparently, it's if you want it delivered via Windows Update that it'll stop and say your PC doesn't fit the requirements. Suppose we'll know in a couple of months when it's officially released and we're able to try it out for ourselves.
I signed up for the windows insider channel to get on the beta for windows 11. Told me my hardware was too old. Oh well. Next day I find my pc updating and it boots into windows 11. Runs totally fine. Laptop with Gen 6 intel cpu and 960M gpu

Microsoft has been changing their criterion almost weekly if not daily.

My best guess is that they just didn't want to do any testing on older hardware (and code workarounds for missing features) and thought they could get away by upping the minimum requirement. But the blowback has been fierce since Windows 10 runs just fine on older hardware. So, they seem to be reluctantly backpeddling. They still won't run all the tests so the caveat is "it might not be stable" (in other words we haven't tested it to make sure).

As someone suggested above, I wouldn't upgrade to Windows 11 on an existing current generation machine let alone old ones until at least the first Service Pack. PCs that come with certified for Windows 11 would have been tested by the manufacturer.

Captain's, can someone tell me if the i9 will work with an ASRock B365 Pro4 ? It's a socket 1151 LGA mobo, which I assume will fit. But I would like a confirmation from someone who knows better. Will be using mainly as a htpc computer.

The i9-9900KF is going to be a good CPU for years to come. Just make sure you pair it with high bandwidth ram/low cas. 3600mhz C16 at minimum. Even better at 4000mhz C18 with your choice of RTX graphics card.

I have a desktop with Intel Core i7-6700K with MSI Z170A motherboard. Keeping everything else the same, would you recommend upgrading the CPU to i9-9900KF?

Edit - I have 1080 8GB and I am using the desktop primarily for large size raw file editing, gaming, and streaming as a media center.

I would recommend an entirely new build with an i9 KF. It would be a massive jump compared to your current rig, assuming it's just the CPU upgrade that you are talking about.

Got it, thanks. For now I am looking for upgrading CPU as I already have a fairly fast SSD and RAM but I feel like CPU is showing it's age while working with large raw files. How can I find the most powerful processor compatible with my MSI Z170A SLI plus motherboard?

I stopped chasing every new chip and graphics card awhile ago, although I STILL love to see what's going on with the chips and such. As It is I don't even think I'm stressing out my old I7 8700K and I am looking for a reason to replace it, but cant really see it right now. Would like to go AMD though as I always had high hopes for them and the are finally a legit contender against Intel.

dydlee
Don't do it for gaming. For this price, you could go 10600k + new motherboard and still have another generation available for 8/16 in the future. The 9700k is pretty great for gaming only workloads

And just like that you changed my mind, thank you Smilie

Guys, guys, guys, Alder lake is a month away and that will support DDR5. Anything you buy today will be obsolete in a matter of days.

How has nobody mentioned all the scams or doa ones customers received? It's a non-returnable item so I think it's too risky, even though there are less bad reviews as of recent.

I still have a Bulldozer system laying around, good for foot warmth in the colder months! Too bad I can't fill it with water and turn it into a foot massage

Yes, it is a series 300 MB that will take any 8th or 9th gen Intel CPU.
