If they can make a 135" OLED for $3500-$4000, I would get that over a projector. Somehow, I don't think that will ever happen at that price.

If anyone is wondering, resale value of the Samsung speakers seem to go for around $599/699 on ebay brand new. If you do not need the speaker, the deal becomes something like taking $500ish off from projector's MSRP price.

Projector and integrated display are separate use cases, they don't really replace one another.

Thanks OP . . . the soundbar is valued at approx $1K from most reputable sellers bringing the effective price of this 4K projector down to around $2K flat which is a killer deal IMO (even the lowest ebay prices are approx $600 for the soundbar). . . been looking to upgrade my old Epson 1080ub forever now--looks like this is the one!

Nice review of this unit from Chris Majestic:

This is my next projector. Been waiting for any kind of deal on it. This might be it but I'm willing to wait for November timeframe. Dealing with reselling the sound bar for $600 minus the ~12% ebay/PayPal fees is less enticing.

No way. Some people have been saying projectors are going to take over, for years, but that's not gonna happen. Most people aren't going to want to educate themselves on how to set one up and find a quality screen and then have to put that up. Then there's the "where do I put this" question. TVs are just so much more convenient and no projector beats OLED.

I have a projector and an OLED TV, love them both, but I think projectors will become less common over time because large TVs keep getting cheaper. What is the real advantage to a projector if you can get a better $100" TV for even less (which is where we are heading, but are not there yet)? You'd have to desire a couple extra feet enough and be comfortable with paying more for it.

I wanted a projector because I put speakers behind my acoustically transparent screen, that is the only reason. 77" OLED TVs can be had for the price of this projector. If you want 120-150" this projector still makes a lot of sense. I just think in a few years, it won't be so clear.

Contrast ratio and black levels are absolutely terrible. You'd be much better off with an Epson 5050ub. And yes.. I know that isn't 'true' 4K, but keep in mind that it's still incredibly sharp and has fantastic color/hdr capabilities, as well as excellent contrast/black lvls.

I guarantee anyone looking at these pictures side by side wouldn't touch the LG

I agree that the black levels will be better on the 5050ub but this LG is an excellent projector that has received "editor's choice"/similar from various respected outlets.

From the various reviews I've read, the majority do state that the epson 5050ub has better black levels but that the differences won't be that noticeable to most viewers unless viewing uniformly darker content (is that the majority of what you watch?). Here are a few others benefits of the LG that I've gathered from reviews:
-respectable black level for a DLP albeit not as good as those on 5050ub. excellent contrast on bright/mixed scenes.
-true 4K (even though it does employ pixel shift)
-better sharpness/image clarity particularly with motion on screen
-covers wide color gamut/97% of DCI-P3
-better HDR performance
-much less opportunity for "rainbow effect" with it's dual laser design and ?lack of a color wheel? (not 100% sure on that latter item).
-input lag suitable for some gaming (but not competitive gaming/competitive FPS).
-excellent connectivity w eARC support
-enough brightness to allow for use in mixed environment (daylight/windows/etc)
-horizontal/vertical lens shift w optical zoom to allow flexible installation
-various benefits of laser technology including no lamp to pay for/replace like on a 5050ub

Here's a balanced review on this projector: https://www.projectorcentral.com/...Review.htm

Bottomline is the 5050ub has better black levels but the LG is comparable for most aspects and arguably better in some other aspects--depends what you value most for your use case . . .

To each his own, but I've been watching this projector for a few months now waiting for it to go on sale. With the $600 soundbar that brings the effective price of this new (not refurbished unit) LG projector down to approximately $2400 depending on how you do the math . . . add in the slickdeals cashback rebate and the laser benefit of not having to pay to replace the lamp periodically looks pretty enticing to me. thanks OP!

If I had the room for it, I would no question go for a projector over a TV because I can setup a legit 2.35:1 theater screen instead of settling for a 16:9 aspect ratio that all TVs are manufactured to.

For those who have demoed both, how does the LG HU810PW compare to the Mi 4K Laser Projector [mi.com]? The Mi sometimes goes on sale for a similar price range.
