This projector absolutely sucks. The picture quality CAN be amazing, but the tone mapping is horrible and it's got coil whine and laser speckle on ALR screens. Had it for four weeks and returned it two years ago, the replacement had all the same issues and returned that. Read the thread on AVS Forums for this thing and see the frustration

I got this for $1050 refurbished with their new year coupon but probably going to return. Huge proportion develop dead pixels after a year when the warranty expires and it's an expensive fix. Well documented on the AVS forums

I think the issue is that you're using it on an ALR screen. Works well in a traditional low gain screen that I helped setup in my friend's man cave. Auto tone mapping is indeed bad but you just have to calibrate and use manual settings.

I was gonna say projector central usually doesn't miss too hard and they were glowing about this model - and they were evaluating it at its msrp.

I bought this during 2022 black Friday for 2k.from Amazon. I had laser speckle come up even with a normal white screen, but in my case was due to the HDMI cable. Currently using a powered 50ft optical HDMI cable and works just fine. Color calibration really takes time unfortunately, but once setup quite bright in a light controlled room. Color balance really sucks in high brightness setting with lights on. so if you plan to use in a lighted room, recommend looking elsewhere. I bought it mainly due to laser, true 4k, and optical projection angle capabilities for vertical and horizontal. Requires a good distance to fill the 125" screen I'm currently using. Very heavy... currently mounted on the back of the room on a plywood board on brackets against studs.

This projector was overhyped hard when new. It isn't nearly as good as reputable and long time other options like the Epson 5050UB that is a similar price.
The LG black levels are poor, it has poor contrast, torched up unnatural color saturation , and red laser speckle. Our local home theater community did an out of the box settings side by side comparison on avsforum between this and a 5050ub and the 5050UB smoked it in every characteristic. Much brighter, much blacker, much better contrast, more natural HDR, more natural colors, more natural picture, no obvious defects like red pixel sparkle. We initially expected the LG to win since it was a newer model and the hype train was behind it, but if I owned that LG after seeing it compared, I would have sold it the next day and bought the Epson.

Hard pass for me. I cannot recommend this projector. Unanimously our group all agreed the Epson had the better picture. How often does that happen in product comparisons? That out of a group everyone chooses the same winner? From my experience in these comparisons — VERY seldom. Telling.

Love this projector. The HDR tone mapping isn't great and I have resolved to disable HDR but it still blows me away. Normal gain AT screen with Apple TV source.
