this scooter sucks, 12mph top speed on paper = 10 in actuality. thats as fast as i can speed walk. also... segway is now owned by xiaomi aka china. fark that
I hope to see you at the Olympics as a speed walker! The Olympic record for men for the 20km speed walk is an average pace of 8.26 miles per hour (13.3 km/h).

I was in the market for a scooter until I saw someone fall over twice while riding on a sidewalk that was uneven. I use that sidewalk every day and it's no problem on a Bike. Seems like Scooters are much more dangerous then Bikes.

12 mph question:
I'm looking for a scooter for my kid (freshman in HS) so he can ride it to school (about 4 miles round trip) when the weather is nice because his bus picks him up an hour before the school starts to go 4 miles. Wouldn't I want the scooter to be slow so he doesn't get terribly hurt?
You want him to be able to pass up the kids riding their bikes

how much you weight? there are many factors impact the top speed number, even if it is made by alien.

I weigh 165. I've ridden 4 electronic scooters made in china and they never actually go their advertised speeds. On their speedometer, it'll show tho but it's not accurate.

165 seems like a perfect weight. I am working in the IT field, is it possible to find a scooter from Korea or Vietnam or Mylasia or Gemeny to benchmark? if not possible, we can see if any EV car can reach the range what they claim, such as Tesla, Mustang-E, VW ID4, Kia, Hyundai. although not exact same category, but still can be considered as apple to apple.

I do think we need an alien engineer in area 51 to take a look at all these Escooter and EV cars, what exactly human race do wrong to make false claim.

I got this on Prime day when it was $350. Tested and returned it. The speed was fine and it climbed mild hills no problem. I didn't feel that it needed to go faster because it would decrease reaction time and harder to maneuver around uneven streets, potholes, road debris etc. Faster also means it takes more time to stop so if someone were to open a car door without looking, faster increases stopping distance significantly. I returned it for a ebike instead, lower center of gravity, sitting position and better braking power.

What are you talking about? 10MPH is 3x faster than walking. Also, Xiaomi is a competitor to Ninebot, and Ninebot are the ones who own Segway. Ninebot is a Chinese maker but so are all of the makers for scooters in this class.

At least Ninebot seems to be trying to distinguish themselves from GoTrax, Xiaomi, HX, and the others by having better support… hence buying a Western brand like Segway with a reputation they seemingly want to uphold. They are a bit like the DJI of this class of micro-mobility vehicles, where DJI is the leading hobbyist drone maker (also Chinese).

I'm as anti-CCP as they come yet I wholly support Ninebot/Segway.

In my opinion you get much more bang for your buck with the $599 (student) deal on the ninebot max G30LP.

I'm in the market for an electric scooter for under $500. I'd like to learn first before buying some of the more expensive ones. Is this good for beginners or is there something better in the $500 range.
Depends on how are you gonna use it, the distance, weight etc. Segway is like Toyota for cars. It is one of the most reliable E-scooter brands in the market. I wouldn't consider for $499, I would buy it for $399 if my round trip is around 5 miles daily. Don't trust their max distance. (probably cut 50% ).

I was in Paris in 2019 and there were a ton of people riding these around the city going 25/ 30 miles an hour. I was surprised how fast considering most weren't wearing helmets.
