I've been tracking hard drive prices and production. Hang in there a little longer... WD is sitting on unsold inventory trying to squeak as much profit as possible before Chia tanks completely. I think you'll see CMR 4TB drives at this price by Feb or March. The PC market is being artificially propped up in several areas and it won't last.
This is a SMR drive. Don't use these in NAS. Might be ok in desktops depending on your usage behavior.
Everyone I know that has settled for an SMR drive has said, Oh I don't care. I don't write much data.... Etc.
But then at some point I hear them complaining because some app or game they're using is super slow and turns out they needed faster write speeds after all.
It's like buying a pickup truck without 4WD. You might not need it normally, but when you do, you feel silly buying a truck without it.

SMR is OK for cold storage, think of it as a tape device, and you'll do fine.
Beyond that - no. It's a clever idea that is similar to TLC/QLC with SLC buffer, but slowdown is way too much. Just say no
It's not great for NAS. The Red Plus is what you should use for NAS, they've gimped their lineup and are trying to use an inferior product in a segment that it doesn't belong in.
Unfortunately, while the SMR WD Red performed respectably in the previous benchmarks, the RAIDZ resilver test proved to be another matter entirely. While all three CMR drives comfortably completed the resilver in under 17 hours, the SMR drive took nearly 230 hours to perform an identical task.

So yeah this is a pretty awful NAS drive despite it being labelled as such
