I rarely down vote a thread but IMHO Western Digital needs to be 'punished' for trying to slip SMR HDDs into consumer use by REPURPOSING a decade long solid NAS HDD NAME like the WD Red into an SMR HDD *WITHOUT* a whimper of notification to the consumer (until these HDDs started failing when unknowing users replaced a 'Real' CMR WD Red with this 'Fake' SMR WD Red and their RAID re-silvering / re-building failed). Mad

Bump "Money Talks - Nobody Walks" - "Hit Them in Their Pocketbooks" Bash

Two nice Baby Boomer expressions that I feel appropriate here.

When you need a replacement HDD for your NAS, DO NOT BUY the WD Red - look into the WD Red Plus, a 'yet-unproven' but at least CMR HDD.

I just went with Enterprise grade HDDs instead of NAS grade on my home server. Hope it was a good move.

Yeah nah better off buying the Pros. Don't play the lottery on these, especially with Newegg's horrible return policy and customer service.

Whoa, when did WD start slapping the Red name on an SMR drive? Hard pass.
