  • About this deal:
    • This price is $150 lower (25% savings) than the list price.
    • Deals on 17.3" laptops have been less common than the more popular smaller sizes. This is a good budget choice for those who have light to moderate computing power needs and wish to have a larger than average display.

outdated design

this is much better deal with discount

The $360 HP specs are not nearly close to what OP posted.

A similarly spec'd one runs $650 before discounts, but you get a free mouse and headset. That's ~ $200 more for $50 worth of freebies. Or do you have a coupon to drop it down to under $500?

Seems like a decent deal. I would just wait until windows 11 is out if you don't need a laptop now.

Save the hassle of upgrading and cleaning laptop of old files.
Upgrading Windows isn't a hassle. Plus, who wants the initial release of Windows 11 anyways? To be honest, there isn't anything in it that is a :must have" feature for me.

Windows 11 is one big "MEH" from me...

Is this better than this from bestbuy?

HP - 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 8GB Memory - 512GB SSD - Natural Silver
This is OK for a 17" laptop. If you don't need 17", there are many more choices of 15" laptop deals.

I find Windows updates and cleanups run fast on an SSD. And it's not hard to cleanup the files with Disk Cleanup.

Do you mean watching streaming contents like Netflix? Yes. It's good. It's an overkill actually. Any new laptop is good.

Its a 17" laptop, this is actually under weight for the screen size, most are 5-6 lbs. Unless youre willing to spend $1200+ for an LG gram or similar, you wont find a 3lb 17" laptop
Guess I'll just stick with my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16" then, it's just not much more weight than this. Thanks!

Stopped by my local (not really that local) Staples and picked one up.

Initial impression -- for an i3 CPU, it's pretty decent! 4 Core / 8 thread. 3.7Ghz Turbo.
The SSD is an NVMe Samsung according to device manager.
The WIFI card is an Intel AX201 Wifi6 adapter.

The screen is fine. I've seen worse and I've seen better, but for a $450 laptop, it's a decent screen. Colors and brightness are acceptable.

The keyboard is confirmed NOT backlit. As a matter of fact, the picture on Staples.com of this unit shows the F4 key with a symbol on it of a lit keycap. The actual laptop has the F4 key blank. So there must be a model with a backlit KB, but this one is not it.

If you have questions, let me know. I've got a spare 8GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM I want to stick it in so I'll be opening it up.

edit: I forgot, it comes with McAfee, Wild Tangent Games and Express VPN bloatware. Easily uninstalled. Other than that, pretty lean.

edit 2: Here are pics of the inside. 2.5" SATA missing cable, etc.

I'd order this if I knew for sure that it had a SATA port and the mounting hardware. Since I use Linux and prefer an encrypted hard drive, it would be nice to be able to easily add a SSD, otherwise I'd have to wipe the included Windows. I'm not sure how well dual boot on a single drive would work with Windows and LUKS encrypted Linux.
