These are pretty heavy and hard to move around when extended. While its really cool a handful of times I often would rather do the work of getting my extension ladder out vs using this and moving it around. If transportability is not a priority, I would advocate for an extension or both.

Agreed, but if you don't have either and only need 1, get this type of ladder. They are a pain to move around but you will likely use this only a few times a year. Being A frame has an advantage and uses over an extension ladder as well. I can reach the second story of my house and can use the A frame to reach ceilings inside the house or the garage.

Weight vs. versatility. Good to warn people about the weight, but they should also factor the things it does that an extension ladder cannot do. For example, you can take one of these home from the store without a pickup truck.

Correct but its not just the weight. For folks buying their first ladder or with little expereience they might compare this to a 24" extension and say hey its only a few lbs difference. The differience is in the fact that you have to wrestle a balanced 20' fully extended ladder vs a 12' retracted one when you move it. Every person who uses a ladder regularly should have at least 3.
