You need to stay will Cricket for 6 months to unlock the phone. However, the $180 that you paid for the 3 months of unlimited services can be downgraded to $30 monthly plan to stretch it to 6 months, which will make you eligible to request for a unlock.

180 days of active service. It's actually more like 175, as I unlocked from a previous deal at that point to avoid paying for another month.

Also, if you move the SIM to another phone it will 'break' the required service time. Some people say you can 'resume' the clock by moving it back, but others say it starts over at 0 again. I didn't want to risk it, so I left it in the iPhone and paid for 6 months total (basically this deal gives you six months prepaid service you switch to the $30 plan with only 2gb of data). Earlier deals would only make you pay $60 or $120, and you could use referrals to help lower future cost some.

From my understanding, it has something to do with the 1 month limit for each deal posted. After a month, the deal will be marked as expired even if it is still ongoing. I think that's basically why the deal was reposted 3 times.

It appears that Cricket is now limiting the credit to the amount you paid when you ordered the device. I used a 25% off coupon code to get the phone for $155. After I received the device today I downgraded to the $30 plan and got credit for only $125 ($30 + $125 = $155) . Similar activations from this Monday netted me a credit of $150.
That sucks. Good thing that the referral credit will still make it back to $180 worth of service.

Seems a little dishonest, my invoice said $120 credit but when I activated the credit was only $95. Tried chat but it's not with a real person and of no help.

I have it for 'sale' on EEE-bay. Just do a search for seller 'bingyee'. I mostly have old phones for sale but one of them is what you are looking for, with no purchase necessary.

I have been using cricket for the last 7 years in a grandfathered 5 lines for $100 plan. I just bought this phone using a visible line and opened an extra independent cricket line. Before activating the phone on the new line I have a few questions:
1. When I merge the accounts, will my 5 for $100 plan be affected?
2. Can I take credit for the grandfathered plan and unlock the phone now instead of waiting 175 days?

Method:
Purchase the phone and pay $180, immediately after activation downgrade your plan to the $30 plan. You will get the full $30 prorated credit if you downgrade within the first day of activation. Right after that merge your new account into your main account by chatting/calling Cricket customer service and during the process make sure that the $150 credits in your new account will be transferred to the main account. Finally, cancel the additional line. You will have the phone for $30 and will have $150 credits in your account.

Can I change to Simply Data Plans, $55 for 100gb data/ month. After 6 months, is that quality unlocking the phone?

Is this process still working for existing cricket customers (taken from the other thread): Purchase the phone and pay $180, immediately after activation downgrade your plan to the $30 plan.

Assuming this is still working, after cancelling the new line that came with the Iphone SE I can just take the sim card out of the phone I have been using and put it into the IPhone SE? Would this make it not available to be unlocked later on?

Also, I understand why the $30 credit would be there after downgrading from the $60 to $30 plan, but why would there be an additional $150 credit? I usually purchase my own phones and bring them in so I'm a little confused...

I wouldn't touch the existing 5/100 account because you will lose your grandfathered status. I've accidently did ordered a phone for my existing account, but fortunately it didn't come. I've found out that I have to pay 130 a month. I called Cricket and fortunately they reverted to 100 but would not refund the extra 30.

Cricket has very unaccommodating customer service and I think is one of their weak points. I have been using cricket for nearly ten years and I stick with it but I avoid having to interact with their CS as much as possible

People used cricket not for their customer, but for their no-frills decent price service. I've used to have Ringplus until they went belly up. Recently my wife lost her phone and myexisting blank sim cards won't work because it was either assigned to another account or it was too old. I ended up going to Bestbuy to buying a sim card for $10 to get my service back. But hey, at least they didn't count as change of service and I kept my 5/100 service.

To switch the plan to $30 for 6 months, do you do it after ordering the phone? Or change it when ordering online?

You should do it on the day that you activate service!
