I just got an email from Mazda and they are offering educators a complimentary oil change, vehicle cleaning and inspection.¹ And not just on Mazda vehicles—most makes and models are eligible. Check with your local dealer to confirm participation details

Educators Service Appreciation Program provides a complimentary oil change, car wash with interior cleaning and vehicle inspection. Eligible customers are all active educators in eligible U.S. educational facilities. Limit one (1) offer redemption per customer during program period. Offer is not transferable. No cash value. A copy of current driver's license and a copy of documentation that clearly reflects proof of occupation within 12 months of the service date is required. Examples include ID card with person's name and name of education facility, pay stub or ID badge. Program period is 7 /6/2021 – 9 /30/2021. Contact participating Mazda Dealer for complete details.

Eligible Vehicles: All educators' vehicles receiving an oil change, car wash with interior cleaning and vehicle inspection during the program period are eligible except for the following vehicles which are not eligible: exotic vehicles, classic car vehicles, off-road vehicles, and vehicles with greater than 8-quart engine oil capacity or any other vehicles with special manufacturer requirements or that require specialized tools or training.

Eligible Customers include: Active teachers, professors, teaching assistants, teaching aids, administrators, coaches, school support staff (e.g., custodial staff, bus drivers, office staff, etc.) within 12 months of the service date. Eligible Educational Facilities include: Public, private, or parochial pre-school, elementary, middle or high school, academy, charter school, prep school, boarding school, college (e.g., career, community, junior, technical), university, post-graduate studies (e.g., master's, doctorate, law, medical, veterinary degrees, etc.)

Mazda is one of the most underrated brands in the market!
LOL, people attempt to make a word plural by adding 's. It's Mazdas.
I personally don't like to go to the dealers unless it's covered under warranty or it's something that requires specialized equipment.

We have to convert to other fuel sources no matter what. Better to do so now before fossil fuels run out. It's called fossil fuels for a reason, as in it comes from an era of fossils (organic matter breaking down over an incredibly long period of time). Meaning once you run out, you can't tap into that resources again. Electric is simply superior to gas combustion. There will be hurdles to overcome just like when the gas combustion was invented. The entire gasoline network had to be created. It didn't exist out of thin air.

Electric cars are charging at faster rates with each new generation being created. The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 can charge from 10% battery to 80% charge in 18 minutes. The full battery capacity is 300 miles. So 240 miles at 80% charge. Four hours of driving. So create whatever dooms day scenario you want, you can charge your car enough so you can drive 4 hours to the next charging station. But maybe you've created a doomsday scenario where the entire electrical grid is down indefinitely.

I have a more grave scenario. The world running out of Oil by 2052: "However, according to BP [5], earth has 53 years of oil reserves left at current rate of consumption [stanford.edu]". BP as in BP oil company giving that prediction.

From the BP link:
Quote :
Nobody knows or can know how much oil exists under the earth's surface or how much it will be possible to produce in the future
That article is garbage as it purposefully misinterprets what was said. They estimate that using today's technology and the known reserves there are 53 years left. Fortunately technology is rapidly improving for oil extraction and reserves are being found at record rates. I work with a lot of petroleum engineers who say that it will be countless generations before we even have to start thinking about running out of oil but in the end nobody really knows.

We do need to invest in alternative energy sources not because we need to replace oil but because we need to be able to produce MUCH larger amounts of energy to keep up with technology innovation.

Oil change on my car is 3.5 hours of labor. I'm guessing it's not included in this promo.

Do you have to remove your entire engine to access the filter or something? That's ridiculous

Do you have anything to refute this information? Scientific analysis rather than "I know a guy who says otherwise". The original article I posted is from Stanford university. One of the most prestigious colleges in the world.

As entire countries catch up to more industrialized nations, gas consumption would increase obviously. Which would expedite the exhaustion of resources further. But this shouldn't be an issue because countries have already made the pledge to phase our gas powered cars. The big players in the world are moving to do this. So that will allow gas to last quite awhile longer. The only people who will be mad at this are people connected (the ultra rich) to companies that extract oil from the ground.

But the world is all about innovation and change. There were a lot of rich people who were upset when the car replaced horses. Sales for horses dropped tremendously. I'm sure there were quite a few people that pouted and cried about cars vs horses during that time: "Cars are dangerous, they move too fast, they need oil, where am I going to get oil for my car? My horse doesn't need any of that! They can just eat grass. It's everywhere!". Eventually those complainers got old and died. Now everyone owns a car. 😂

sometimes it can make the shop a little smoky/smelly for a little while, usually when you first fire it up, but it clears out pretty quickly, and when it's up and running good, it's perfectly fine. Works out really well for us, as we would have to pay someone to pick up our waste oil. Now we store it in 55gal drums over the summer, and that also allows us to accept used oil from people in our community for free. one of these https://www.lanair.com/

A good mechanic wouldn't let a car go for 10 years without checking and changing filters, spark plugs, transmission fluid, shocks, bushings, etc.

Coolant, brake fluid, tranny fluid, gear oil, etc do not last forever.
As a mechanic though, when you tell people these things, you don't want to feel like you're pushing things on people. I never try to sell anyone anything they don't need, even if an air filter is recommended maintenance at a certain mileage, I always check it first to see if it actually needs replacing. You're not going to get rich pushing air filters on people, but you will do very well gaining their trust! auto tech 40yrs...

It requires removal of the front bumper, the left front wheel and brake assembly. It is ridiculous. Luckally I only need 1 change a year.
