Electric cars are charging at faster rates with each new generation being created. The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 can charge from 10% battery to 80% charge in 18 minutes. The full battery capacity is 300 miles. So 240 miles at 80% charge. Four hours of driving. So create whatever dooms day scenario you want, you can charge your car enough so you can drive 4 hours to the next charging station. But maybe you've created a doomsday scenario where the entire electrical grid is down indefinitely.
I have a more grave scenario. The world running out of Oil by 2052: "However, according to BP [5], earth has 53 years of oil reserves left at current rate of consumption [stanford.edu]". BP as in BP oil company giving that prediction.
From the BP link:
We do need to invest in alternative energy sources not because we need to replace oil but because we need to be able to produce MUCH larger amounts of energy to keep up with technology innovation.
Do you have to remove your entire engine to access the filter or something? That's ridiculous
That article is garbage as it purposefully misinterprets what was said. They estimate that using today's technology and the known reserves there are 53 years left. Fortunately technology is rapidly improving for oil extraction and reserves are being found at record rates. I work with a lot of petroleum engineers who say that it will be countless generations before we even have to start thinking about running out of oil but in the end nobody really knows.
We do need to invest in alternative energy sources not because we need to replace oil but because we need to be able to produce MUCH larger amounts of energy to keep up with technology innovation.
As entire countries catch up to more industrialized nations, gas consumption would increase obviously. Which would expedite the exhaustion of resources further. But this shouldn't be an issue because countries have already made the pledge to phase our gas powered cars. The big players in the world are moving to do this. So that will allow gas to last quite awhile longer. The only people who will be mad at this are people connected (the ultra rich) to companies that extract oil from the ground.
But the world is all about innovation and change. There were a lot of rich people who were upset when the car replaced horses. Sales for horses dropped tremendously. I'm sure there were quite a few people that pouted and cried about cars vs horses during that time: "Cars are dangerous, they move too fast, they need oil, where am I going to get oil for my car? My horse doesn't need any of that! They can just eat grass. It's everywhere!". Eventually those complainers got old and died. Now everyone owns a car. 😂
Coolant, brake fluid, tranny fluid, gear oil, etc do not last forever.
Thanks for sharing OP. Saved me $80 and got a car wash too.
